Typically, when we receive a call for a motor vehicle violation, we initially attempt to obtain as much information as possible from the potential client to determine whether or not they will require legal representation given their individual circumstances. Accordingly, please feel free to contact us to discuss your individual situation to determine whether or not legal representation is required. Expires 1 / 15/2 4 Coupon Needs To Be Present WWW.CHENGCHENRESTAURANTS.COM Any Purchase As most citizens of New Jersey know, municipal prosecutors will, generally, as a matter of course offer a “no point” or “zero point” violation as part of a plea bargain if you are charged with one of these low-level motor vehicle violations. The monetary cost of these “no point” or “zero point” violations are rather excessive in that you are required to pay a $250.00 surcharge for this “privilege.” The statute which provides this “no point” plea is called the unsafe driving statute. The basic theory in accepting a “no point” or “zero point” plea bargain is to potentially avoid motor vehicle points on your license in order to keep your auto insurance premiums lower and, potentially, to avoid the suspension of your driving privileges where you are in danger of accumulating 12 motor vehicle points which will result in a temporary suspension of driving privileges. However, it should be pointed out that there are a number of situations in which your acceptance of such a “no point” or “zero point” plea bargain may adversely affect your rights without your knowledge. One such situation is where you have already previously pled guilty to unsafe driving on more than one occasion. Your third guilty plea to unsafe driving within a certain period of time will subject you to four motor vehicle points when you may be under the mistaken belief that you will not be receiving any motor vehicle points. Another such situation where you potentially will need legal representation is where the low-level motor vehicle violation is the result of a motor vehicle accident. BY JOHN BAZZURRO As indicated on our website, there are numerous charges that are heard in the Municipal Courts in the State of New Jersey. These range from low level motor vehicle violations such as going through a stop sign, careless driving, failure to maintain your lane and other charges that generally carry very low fines and two or less motor vehicle points. If you have been charged with any motor vehicle violation that carries more than two motor vehicle points upon a conviction, we suggest that you obtain the advice of counsel before going to court. The purpose of this article is to provide the reader with some information as to whether or not they need legal representation in Municipal Court on a low-level motor vehicle violation that carries two or less motor vehicle points.

A VALENTINE’S DAY STORY By Richard Mabey Jr.

wsiworld. (609) 28 b.desai@ #FaceBook Ad #Get More Le wsiworld.c (609) 286 #Local SEO #Google Ads #FaceBook Ad #Get More Lea It was a Sunday afternoon that Dad visited Uncle Earl and Aunt Eleanor. A most fateful Sunday. After lunch, Dad and his broth er took a walk to the front yard of Uncle Earl’s new home. They stood beneath a maple tree and talked. Across the street, on Boon ton Avenue, a young high school girl sat upon the rock wall of her home, reading a book. In the dozens of times that Dad told this story, he always said that he asked Uncle Earl who was the girl sitting upon the rock wall. And Uncle Earl simply replied, “she’s one of the Kemmerer girls.” Then Dad was quiet for a moment and he simply said to his brother, “she’s such a pretty girl. I’m going to marry her.” Fast forward to February of 1943. Dad is at Hickam Airfield. He is assigned the task of fueling up airplanes. He is all so homesick. There is a certain anxiety and fear in the air. For rumors are abound ing of another Japanese attack. Your Tru BrianD For Digit Digita #Local SEO #Google Ads In August of 1942, my father had just finished his basic train ing, in the United States Army, at Fort McClellan in Alabama. He was granted a week’s leave. Dad was about to be assigned to the Seventh Army Air Corps, to be dispatched to Hickam Airfield in Hawaii. While on his week-long leave, Dad had lunch with his brother Earl and Uncle Earl’s wife, Eleanor. Uncle Earl and Aunt Eleanor had just gotten married in June. They moved into Aunt Eleanor’s home stead, in the 600 block of Boonton Avenue in Boonton. They lived with Aunt Eleanor’s widowed fa ther.

Mom gives one Valentine’s Day cookie to her Mom, and one to her Dad. And, the other one she carefully wraps in a box, to send to the Airman at Hickam (being my Dad). Mom had become pen pals with Dad. Aunt Eleanor, know ing of Dad’s homesick blues, gave Dad’s Hickam Airfield address to Mom. Dad always said that Mom’s Val entine’s Day cookie, sealed the deal for him. That the second that he opened Mom’s box and saw the carefully wrapped Valentine’s Day cookie, that this really was the girl he was going to marry. Fate and Destiny are strange twins. How much of our lives, are totally our of our hands? Now at 70, I look back at all the times my father told the story of his Valen tine cookie that Mom sent him. Dad would often laugh about how the cookie came broken in piec es and that the box was a little crushed. Then Dad would say that it was the best Valentine’s Day gift he had ever received. Was it by Divine decree that those three Valentine cookies were left unsold? And, Mom’s boss, at the A&P, could have easily taken those cookies home for herself. And why three cookies? If there were just two cookies left, Mom would have probably given one to her Mom, and one to her Dad.

I often wonder, what if Mom had not been sitting upon the rock wall, that bordered her front yard, that fateful Sunday afternoon in August of 1942? And, what if Dad had not visited his brother, Earl, on that very same Sunday after noon? And, what if Aunt Eleanor had not given Dad’s Hickam Air field address to Mom? At times, it all seems so eerie and haunting. I believe that God is guiding our lives, more than we will ever know. Richard Mabey Jr. is a freelance writer. He hosts a YouTube Channel titled, “Richard Mabey Presents.” Richard most recently published a book of poetry and short stories. He can be reached at richardmabeyjr@hotmail.com.

An old photo of my Mom and Dad, taken shortly after Dad received his Honorable Discharge from the United States Army Air Corps.

It is now Valentine’s Day of 1943. Janet Kemmerer (my Mom) is working an after-school job at the A&P in Boonton. She is working in the Bakery De partment. It is close to closing time. Three Valentine’s Day cookies are still on the shelf. They had not been sold. Mom’s boss simply says, “Janet, why don’t you take those Valentine’s Day cookies home with you.” So, Mom does.

Many of us can relate to the rewarding experiences during the holidays, but the stress and worry that follow as credit card statements arrive are all too familiar for a person or family struggling to stay on top of their bills which were also often paid by mounting credit cards. Before you dismiss it, Bankruptcy might sound like a stigma or a failure, but in reality, it’s a legal process designed to offer a fresh start to individuals facing overwhelming debt. Many famous people had to use this legal process to ultimately go on and become not only strong parents and family members but also successful scientists, inventors and business people who make society a better place. HOW DO MONOCLONAL ANTIBODIES WORK AGAINST CANCER?

Monoclonal antibodies are im mune system proteins that are cre ated in the lab. Antibodies are pro duced naturally by your body and help the immune system recognize germs that cause disease, such as bacteria and viruses, and mark them for destruction. Like your body’s own antibodies, monoclonal anti bodies recognize specific targets. Many monoclonal antibodies are used to treat cancer. They are a type of targeted cancer therapy, which means they are designed to interact with specific targets. Some monoclonal antibodies are also immunotherapy because they help turn the immune system against cancer. For example, some monoclonal antibodies mark cancer cells so that the immune system will better recognize and destroy them. An example is rituximab, which binds to a protein called CD20 on B cells and some types of cancer cells, causing the immune system to kill them. B cells are a type of white blood cell. Other monoclonal antibodies bring T cells close to cancer cells, helping the immune cells kill the cancer cells. An example is blina

Like most types of immunother apy, monoclonal antibodies can cause skin reactions at the needle site and flu-like symptoms. Needle site reactions include: • Pain

• Swelling • Soreness • Redness • Itchiness • Rash Flu-like symptoms include: • Chills • Fatigue • Fever • Muscle aches and pains • Nausea

• Vomiting • Diarrhea

Monoclonal antibodies can also cause: • Mouth and skin sores that can lead to serious infections • High blood pressure • Congestive heart failure • Heart attacks • Inflammatory lung disease Monoclonal antibodies can cause mild to severe allergic reac tions while you are receiving the

drug. In rare cases, the reaction is severe enough to cause death. Some monoclonal antibodies can also cause capillary leak syndrome. This syndrome causes fluid and proteins to leak out of tiny blood vessels and flow into surrounding tissues, resulting in dangerously low blood pressure. Cap illary leak syndrome may lead to multiple organ failure and shock. Cytokine release syndrome can sometimes occur with monoclonal an tibodies, but it is often mild. Cytokines are immune substances that have many different functions in the body, and a sudden increase in their levels can cause: • Fever • Nausea • Headache • Rash • Rapid heartbeat • Low blood pressure • Trouble breathing Credit: The National Cancer Institute “Monoclonal Antibodies was original ly published by the National Cancer Institute.”

tumomab (Blincyto®), which binds to both CD19, a protein found on the surface of leukemia cells, and CD3, a protein on the surface of T cells. This process helps the T cells get close enough to the leukemia cells to respond to and kill them. Which cancers are treated with monoclonal antibodies? Many monoclonal antibodies have been approved to treat a wide variety of cancers. What are the side effects of monoclonal antibodies? Monoclonal antibodies can cause side effects, which can differ from per son to person. The ones you may have and how they make you feel will de pend on many factors, such as how healthy you are before treatment, your type of cancer, how advanced it is, the type of monoclonal antibody you are receiving, and the dose. Doctors and nurses cannot know for sure when or if side effects will occur or how serious they will be. So, it is important to know which signs to look for and what to do if you start to have problems.

The actual rock scramble is only about one mile, while of course taking much longer, and it then connects to the rest of the hike– an ascent and descent that loops for a total of four miles. Located in Closter, New Jersey and begins on the State Line lookout off the Palisades Parkway, the Giant Stairs hike consists of a mile-long stretch of large boulders that over looks the Hudson Valley. The Palisades are a group of steep cliffs that line the Hudson River, and the Giant Stairs lie right below. This hike loops around for some four miles, with an estimate of taking two hours per mile. This particular section of the hike takes you through both the forest and areas of open space, with views that include the Peanut Leap Cas cade, a waterfall that is present only after significant rainfall. QUESTION: What is Optomap retinal imaging?

ANSWER:

The optomap ultra-widefield retinal image is a unique technology that captures more than 80% of your retina in one panoramic image while traditional imaging methods typically only show 15% of your retina at one time. Your retina (located in the back of your eye) is the only place in the body where blood vessels can be seen directly. This means that in addition to eye conditions, signs of other diseases (for example, stroke, heart disease, hypertension and diabetes) can also be seen in the retina. Early detection of life-threatening diseases like cancer, stroke, and cardiovascular disease. It also facilitates early protection from vision impairment or blindness. Early signs of these conditions can show on your retina long before you notice any changes to your vision or feel pain. While eye exams include a look at the front of the eye to evaluate health and prescription changes, a thorough screening of the

free. It is suitable for every age, even children. The capture takes less than a second. Images are available immediately and you can see your own retina and exactly what your eye care practitioner sees in a 3D animation. Most importantly, early detection means successful treatments can be administered and reduces the risk to your sight and health.

CECILIA PAYNE- GAPOSCHKIN A Woman of the Stars! By Pam Teel

Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin, born Cecilia Hel ena Payne (May 1900 – December 7, 1979) was a British-born American astronomer and astro physicist who proposed in her 1925 doctoral the sis that stars were composed primarily of hydro gen and helium. Her groundbreaking conclusion was initially rejected because it contradicted the scientific wisdom of the time, which held that there were no significant elemental differences between the Sun and Earth. Independent obser vations eventually proved she was correct. Her work on the nature of variable stars was founda tional to modern astrophysics. Payne was one of three children born in Buck inghamshire, England, to Prussian-born Emma Leonora Helena (née Pertz) and Edward John Payne, a London barrister, historian, and musi cian. Payne’s father died when she was four years old, forcing her mother to raise the family on her own. Payne began her education at a private school. When she was twelve, her mother moved the family to London where Cecilia attended St

actual temperatures by applying Indian physicist Meghnad Saha’s ionization theory. She showed that the great variation in stellar absorption lines was due to differing amounts of ionization at different temperatures, not to different amounts of elements. She found that silicon, carbon, and other common metals seen in the Sun’s spectrum were present in about the same relative amounts as on Earth, in agreement with the accepted be lief of the time, which held that the stars had ap proximately the same elemental composition as the Earth. However, she found that helium and particularly hydrogen were vastly more abun dant (for hydrogen, by a factor of about one mil lion). Her thesis concluded that hydrogen was the overwhelming constituent of stars, making it the most abundant element in the Universe. However, when Payne’s dissertation was re viewed, astronomer Henry Norris Russell dis suaded her from concluding that the compo sition of the Sun was predominantly hydrogen because it would contradict the scientific con sensus of his 1914 article that the elemental com position of the Sun and the Earth were similar.

Mary’s College in Paddington. There, she was unable to study much in the field of mathematics or science merely because she was a female. (Women were highly discouraged from studying these fields.) In 1918 she transferred to an all-girls school where she was urged to pursue a music career but pre ferred to focus on science. Her mother refused to pay for her to go to college. The following year she won a scholarship that paid all her expenses at Newnham College, Cambridge University, where she focused on studying botany, physics, and chemistry. Her interest in astronomy began after she attended a lecture by Arthur Eddington on his 1919 expedition to the island of Príncipe in the Gulf of Guinea off the west coast of Africa to observe and photograph the stars near a solar eclipse as a test of Albert Einstein’s general theory of relativity. She said of the lecture: “The result was a complete transformation of my world picture.” She completed her studies but was not awarded a degree because she was a female. Cambridge did not grant degrees to women until 1948. Payne realized that her only career option in the U.K. was to become a teacher, so she looked for grants that would enable her to move to the Unit ed States. In 1923, she was introduced to the Director of the Harvard College Observatory, Harlow Shapely. He had just established a graduate program in astronomy, making it possible for women, with the aid of a fellowship, to study at the observatory. Payne became the second female student to ben efit from the fellowship. She was persuaded by Shapely to write a doctoral dissertation, and in 1925, she became the first person to earn a Ph.D. in Astronomy from Radcliffe College of Harvard University. Payne was able to accurately relate the spectral classes of stars to their

A few years later, astronomer Otto Struve described her work as “the most brilliant Ph.D. thesis ever written in astronomy”. Henry Norris Russell also realized that Payne was correct in her findings when he derived the same results by different means. In 1929, four years after Payne’s findings, Rus sell published his works in a paper that briefly acknowledged Payne’s ear lier work and discovery, including the mention that, “the most important previous determination of the abundance of the elements by astrophysical means is that by Miss Payne.” Nevertheless, he was generally credited for the conclusions she had reached four years earlier. After her doctorate, Payne studied stars of high luminosity to understand the structure of the Milky Way. Later she surveyed all the stars brighter than the tenth magnitude. She then studied variable stars, making over 1,250,000 observations with her assistants. This work later was extended to the Magel lanic Clouds, adding a further 2,000,000 observations of variable stars. These data were used to determine the paths of stellar evolution. She published her conclusions in her second book, The Stars of High Luminosity in 1930. Her observations and analysis of variable stars, along with her husband Sergei Gaposchkins analysis, laid the basis for all subsequent work on such objects. Payne-Gaposchkin remained scientifically active throughout her life, spending her entire academic career at Harvard. When she began, women were barred from becoming professors at Harvard, so she spent years do ing less prestigious, low-paid research jobs. Nevertheless, her work resulted in several published books, including T he Stars of High Luminosity (1930), Variable Stars (1938), and Variable Stars and Galactic Structure (1954). They power the world’s largest economy and strengthen our ties with trading partners around the world, all while supporting our military forces by shipping troops and sup plies wherever they need to go.” “In 1933, Congress declared National Mar itime Day to commemorate the American steamship Savannah’s voyage from the United States to England, marking the first success ful crossing of the Atlantic Ocean with steam propulsion. During World War II more than 250,000 members of the American Merchant Marine served their country, with more than 6,700 giving their lives, hundreds being de tained as prisoners of war and more than 800 U.S. merchant ships being sunk or damaged.” “Maritime Day is a time-honored tradition that recognizes one of our country’s most im portant industries.
