and outreach programs of substance to these new members, in addition to our famous happy hour networking events. By providing more opportunities to learn and grow in our industry, we know our members will continue to spread the word about the value of membership in the Young Professionals Committee. This year, we would like to expand on our education programs by providing a homebuyers seminar for anyone looking to buy a home. This program will build off the success of last year’s first time home buyer’s seminar and is planned for either this fall or spring 2019. Another educational program we are planning to provide is on personal branding. It’s not necessarily about your company, it’s more about you and the skills you are bringing to any business deal, employer, or association. Another worthy topic we are exploring is how to market to millennials, who are continuing to be a force in the current economy. Be sure to keep an eye out for information on these programs, as we finalize the details and get the word out. It doesn’t have to be all work and no play. That’s not how us Young Professionals roll! We are also working on some dates for more casual events for all association members that may include a fun rusty guns versus young guns event, as well as our now-famous happy hours.

Lastly, reaching out to the local community is an important part of our initiative this year. We are currently working on a mentoring program with Monmouth University to have representatives of our committee speak to groups of students to discuss the opportunities within the building industry. You may not know this, but we have a student membership at Shore Builders Association. We are looking forward to introducing the student members to other association members at an upcoming General Membership meeting so that they can network and learn about the importance of the association to the sustainability of our industry. I’m happy to say that the Young Professionals Committee is alive and thriving. With more innovative ideas, efficient technology based tools, and a commitment to our communities, we are looking forward to providing substantial contributions to our association in the coming year.

is already shaping up to be a great year for our Young Professionals Committee at Shore Builders Association. We are proud to say that three of our members are now officers of the association, which speaks volumes for the importance of our generation to the future of the building industry. Congratulations to Michael J. Kokes, President, Chris Amato, Vice President, and James Pittenger, Treasurer. We are so proud that our members are an important part of the association’s leadership. Not only are YP’s making an impact as leaders, we are also changing the way business is done in a positive way. As our Executive Officer, Gina McNamara, mentioned in her article, we rely on technology to efficiently create meetings, share ideas, and communicate with one another. From video chatting, to apps that help with scheduling, our committee is more inclined to provide a link to documentation, rather than hand out a package at a meeting. These are only small examples of how we do business differently than generations before us. Getting more people involved with YP and re-energizing existing members is one of our goals for 2018. With younger builders joining the association, they are bringing with them younger associate members. Not only is it our mission to grow the committee, we want to bring more educational seminars, events,
