Builder Spotlight

Arvo Prima – BEAMAWARDWINNER

I nspired by my post-college experience working for a building company in Monmouth County, I knew I wanted to be a builder. As a young man, I started off as a mason helper with my father, Vello, over 45 years ago. Later, my father and I founded Prima Corporation in 1990. The company was later joined by my wife, Beverly, and my brother, Kalju. Today, most of our success is attributed to the unwavering partnerships we have fostered through the years. One of those partnerships is with the Shore Builders Association of Central New Jersey (SBACNJ). I first joined the SBACNJ in 1992. That same year, I was named Jack Meyer Rookie of the Year. I later served as second Vice President from 1998 to 1999, first Vice President from 2000 to 2001 and President

from 2002 to 2003. Relationships were built on trust, respect and humility. Vendors and contractors became friends and partners. Deep- rooted bonds were formed. I felt free to be vulnerable with my peers. I was mentored by some of the best individuals in the building industry. I learned solid work ethics and grew as loyalties began to shine through. and that’s why it is a true honor to receive this year’s BEAM award. Prior to this award, I was the recipient of multiple FAME Awards, as well as the following accolades:

1999 SBACNJ Cornerstone Award

2002 SBACNJ Builder Hall of Fame

2002 SBACNJ Big Spike of the Year
