BY JOHN BAZZURRO As indicated on our website, there are numerous charges that are heard in the Municipal Courts in the State of New Jersey. These range from low level motor vehicle violations such as going through a stop sign, careless driving, failure to maintain your lane and other charges that generally carry very low fines and two or less motor vehicle points. If you have been charged with any motor vehicle violation that carries more than two motor vehicle points upon a conviction, we suggest that you obtain the advice of counsel before going to court. The purpose of this article is to provide the reader with some information as to whether or not they need legal representation in Municipal Court on a low-level motor vehicle violation that carries two or less motor vehicle points. As most citizens of New Jersey know, municipal prosecutors will, generally, as a matter of course offer a “no point” or “zero point” violation as part of a plea bargain if you are charged with one of these low-level motor vehicle violations. The monetary cost of these “no point” or “zero point” violations are rather excessive in that you are required to pay a $250.00 surcharge for this “privilege.” The statute which provides this “no point” plea is called the unsafe driving statute. The basic theory in accepting a “no point” or “zero point” plea bargain is to potentially avoid motor vehicle points on your license in order to keep your auto insurance premiums lower and, potentially, to avoid the suspension of your driving privileges where you are in danger of accumulating 12 motor vehicle points which will result in a temporary suspension of driving privileges. However, it should be pointed out that there are a number of situations in which your acceptance of such a “no point” or “zero point” plea bargain may adversely affect your rights without your knowledge. One such situation is where you have already previously pled guilty to unsafe driving on more than one occasion. Your third guilty plea to unsafe driving within a certain period of time will subject you to four motor vehicle points when you may be under the mistaken belief that you will not be receiving any motor vehicle points. Another such situation where you potentially will need legal representation is where the low-level motor vehicle violation is the result of a motor vehicle accident. The bottom line is that, regardless of what type of motor vehicle violation you are charged with, you should seek the advice of an attorney before appearing in Municipal Court by yourself and entering into a plea bargain which may subject you to other legal ramifications of which you were not aware. Typically, when we receive a call for a motor vehicle violation, we initially attempt to obtain as much information as possible from the potential client to determine whether or not they will require legal representation given their individual circumstances. Accordingly, please feel free to contact us to discuss your individual situation to determine whether or not legal representation is required. •LICENSED AND BONDED APPRAISERS • TOP CASH PAID For Estate Jewelry & Watches and Coins • FREE Evaluation! REMEMBERING LITTLE SNOWBALL By Richard Mabey Jr.
Sometimes, it’s hard for me to believe that it was only about a year and half that I had a rather successful dog walking business, in my neighborhood. Altogether, I had about 20 cli ents. When I was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, back in December of 2023, my Cardiologist highly recommended that I give up my little business. On busy days, I was walking a good five or six miles a day, taking the little pups for their walks. Lately, I find myself thinking, more and more, about the dogs who have touched my heart and life. Sadly, some have passed away. Some of their mommies and daddies have moved away, and I know I will never see those little dogs ever again. During my morning devotional time, after I’ve read a few pages of the Holy Bible, I pray for the dogs to whom I looked upon as friends. And lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about Little Snowball. She was a little pupper, all white in col or. A most happy dog. A bit high strung, but for some reason, she would calm down whenever I would take care of her. Little Snowball’s daddy and mommy were Ted and Jean. They were both in their early eighties. They lived on the next street over from me. They would frequently drive out to a little town in North Carolina to visit with their daughter and son-in-law, for about a week at a time. They were very kind people, and I would stay at their home and take care of Little Snowball, while they were away. I think that Ted had a very good pension, because they would always pay me very well for my time of taking care of Little Snowball.
A happy moment with Little Snowball and yours truly.
Sadly, I never heard from Jean again. I was going to write her again, but thought that it was best not to push on the door. The old adage, when one door closes, another one opens, is all so very true. I now am focused on educating as many people as I can possibly reach, about the detailed intricacies of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. Just last week, my General Practitioner complimented me that she thought I proba bly knew more about HCM than most Primary Physicians know. I told her that I read and study, the latest cutting-edge trials of HCM, anywhere from an hour to three hours a day. HCM is the single most difficult heart disease to diagnose. It is a silent killer. Hold dear to your Divine Purpose. Be true to the calling that God has placed in your heart. Falter not. Be not distracted by the nay slayers. Hold a love for all living things, deep within the chambers of your heart. Never abandon your dreams. Never give up! Never, ever surrender! For with God, all things are possible. In June of 2023, Ted went Home to be with the Lord. He had, had a heart attack. It was only a few days after Ted passed away that Jean’s daughter helped her mother pack up her stuff. They had a big garage sale. I bought one of Ted’s books, Ernest Hemingway’s first novel, “The Sun Also Rises.” I cherish it. Right after they had their big garage sale, Jean put the house up for sale and moved to North Carolina to live with her daughter. It was very, very sad to say goodbye to Little Snowball. For I knew, in my heart of hearts, I would never see that adorable little puppy ever again. Sometimes life just isn’t fair. About a week after Jean moved away, I received an email from her. She told me that she and Little Snowball were doing well. And, that they had plans to visit Mount Airy, the real Mayberry. I had often talked about the real May berry with Ted and Jean. They had never visited there at all. I wrote Jean back and told her that I was happy that she and Little Snow ball were happy in North Carolina. I made a little joke to Jean that she need ed to be careful driving in North Carolina, that there was a nervous Deputy Sheriff (namely Barney Fife) there that had given his own mother a speeding ticket.

QUESTION: What is Optomap retinal imaging?
ANSWER:
The optomap ultra-widefield retinal image is a unique technology that captures more than 80% of your retina in one panoramic image while traditional imaging methods typically only show 15% of your retina at one time. Your retina (located in the back of your eye) is the only place in the body where blood vessels can be seen directly. This means that in addition to eye conditions, signs of other diseases (for example, stroke, heart disease, hypertension and diabetes) can also be seen in the retina. Early detection of life-threatening diseases like cancer, stroke, and cardiovascular disease. It also facilitates early protection from vision impairment or blindness. Early signs of these conditions can show on your retina long before you notice any changes to your vision or feel pain. While eye exams include a look at the front of the eye to evaluate health and prescription changes, a thorough screening of the
free. It is suitable for every age, even children. The capture takes less than a second. Images are available immediately and you can see your own retina and exactly what your eye care practitioner sees in a 3D animation. Most importantly, early detection means successful treatments can be administered and reduces the risk to your sight and health.

On Eagle’s Wings CHAPTER 2: THE GODDESS By Richard Mabey Jr.
This is the second con densed chapter of the book that I am presently writing, about my journey to earn scouting’s highest rank, Eagle Scout. This is a true story. Each and every one of us hold a destiny, a purpose, a certain knowingness of our purpose in life. It may be buried deep with in the fiber and sinew of the chambers of the heart, but from time to time, God reveals glimpses of the purpose of which He gave the precious gift of life to us. And, in line with that perspective, there are people who come into our lives, beyond coincidence, who become a wonderful friend and guide to help us in our pursuit of our Di vine purpose in life. In early September of
at the indoor swimming pool at the Paterson YMCA. Lisa was so unlike the girls I knew at school. She had a certain inner confidence, compassion flowed through her veins and an abound ing kindness abided in her heart. I think that Lisa saw something in me. She was fully aware of the flame that burnt in my heart, to become a good swimmer. I remember Lisa once told me that I was the best swim ming student that she had ever taught. Not that I was a great swimmer, that was far from the case, but rath er that I was so very sincere and earnest in my quest to become a good swimmer. About a month into our swimming lessons, my heart broke when Lisa’s boyfriend came into the pool room, to pick up Lisa. Lisa scolded
1969, I had just turned 16 and was beginning my junior year at Boonton High School. That Saturday morning, when I walked into the foyer of the Paterson YMCA, all alone, I had no idea I was about to meet a person who would dramatically change my life for the better. Mom had driven me to the big city YMCA, for the purpose of my beginning to take swimming lessons at their indoor pool. A fire burnt in my heart, to earn the Swimming Merit Badge, to become an Eagle Scout. I remember I was all so nervous. I walked the long hallways to the room where the indoor pool was located. I remember it like it was yesterday. I opened the door to the pool room, and there sat this very beautiful young woman, on a chair beside the pool. When I entered the room, this beautiful goddess came over to greet me and introduce herself. Lisa smiled as she shook my hand and introduced herself. Lisa was to be my swimming teacher. Amazingly, the other two boys, who were scheduled for her swimming class never showed up. Lisa had just begun her junior year at Paterson State College (now known as William Paterson University). She had long brown hair. Simply put, I fell in love with her, the moment I first saw her. I remember that Lisa was incredibly patient with me. She taught me the proper arm and leg movements needed to become a good swimmer. She had a most gentle voice, but at the same time, held a certain degree of authority when she spoke. Every Saturday morning, for three months, we would meet
him for interrupting her class with me. He sulked as he departed the pool room. I confess, I actually felt sorry for her puppy dog boyfriend. For as kind as Lisa could be, she could also be all so very stern. In early December of 1969, I convinced Lisa to sign up to become an offi cial Swimming Merit Badge Counselor. Lisa proudly signed the paperwork for my Swimming Merit Badge. It was a moment that was all so near and dear to my heart. From time to time, I think of Lisa. I pray she is alive and well. One of my deepest regrets is that I did not invite Lisa to my Eagle Scout Dinner. It was just one of those things. I don’t think I would have earned scouting’s highest rank, without Lisa’s helping hand. I am convinced, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that God brought Lisa in my life to help me along my rocky road to become an Eagle Scout. But now, after earning the Swimming Merit Badge, a new challenge await ed me. And that big challenge was to earn the difficult Lifesaving Merit Badge. Lisa, if you’re reading this story, thank you for all your help. To be continued. Richard Mabey Jr. is a freelance writer. He has had two books published. Her uncle and aunt, Nolan and Erin McCarthy, remained living at the old canal house on Mabey Lane for many years. I would often ask them how their niece, Devon, was doing. They would be vague and evasive and would simply tell me that she was doing okay. Finally, one day, Nolan told me that Devon married her boyfriend about a month after returning to Chicago. It was what it was. Again, part of me was genuinely happy for Devon. Part of me felt a certain sadness. I did finish painting the red barn, in the early part of that week in June of 1983. The carriage house where Uncle Ed and Aunt Joy lived in, was now empty. A new chapter of my life was about to unfold. In the weeks that followed, Devon became a fad ing memory. Sometimes the greatest gift you can give someone, is just to let them go. To not try to hold onto them. But to find a bit of joy, in their departing to find happiness in life. From time to time, I think of Devon. I wonder if she is okay, if she’s healthy and still with us on this side of Heaven’s Gate. From time to time, I pray that she found happiness in returning to Chicago. To be continued next issue. Richard Mabey Jr. is a freelance writer. It was now Monday morning, the thirteenth of June of 1983. I still had three more days of my va cation time left. Uncle Ed and Aunt Joy were now on their way to Nevada. Dad had returned to work, ear lier that morning. I was now alone, in the shadow of the tall pine tree, paint ing the barn with a most glorious shade of red paint. The joy and splen dor that I felt just a week ago, as Dad and Uncle Ed and I built the little barn, had now evaporated. High noon came. I went
Medicaid/J.A.C.C. Covered Service
inside the old Mabey Homestead and ate lunch with my mom and sister, Patti. After I ate lunch, I walked out to the area along Mabey Lane, where I was painting the outer walls of the barn. As I began, once again, painting the barn, Devon Mc Carthy stepped out from the old canal home, just across Mabey Lane, just across from the little barn. Devon crossed Mabey Lane and came over to talk with me. There was a sadness in her eyes, that I caught right away. Devon had come over to tell me that she was moving back to Chicago. That she and her former boyfriend were going to give it all another try. Devon told me that she would be leav ing for Chicago, the next day. I remember doing my utmost best to hide my sorrow. I put on a good front and told Devon that I was happy for her. The truth is that part of me was actually happy for her, but a bigger part of me was sad that she would soon be leaving the neighbor hood. Life isn’t always fair. It seems that for the most part, people come into our lives. They touch our hearts, perhaps teach us something, and share with us, their perspective on life. Such was the case of Devon McCarthy. This was a time before email and texting. Devon told me that she would write me, when she got back to Chicago. Sadly, I never did hear from Devon ever again. Call UsToday For ATour or Info! A SAFE TRAFFIC STOP By John Bazzurro As a result of social media, the news and police “reality” shows, we have all seen a routine tra ffi c stop by a police o ffi cer escalate to a point where either the o ffi cer or an individual is fatally injured. In order to help prevent such tragic results, I am writing this article to provide information to citizens in an e ff ort to avoid such an outcome. Because I represent a number of law enforcement o ffi cers, I o ft en times see things from their point of view as well as from the view of an average citizen. Th e bottom line is that a law enforcement o ffi cer who is e ff ectuating a tra ffi c stop is genuinely concerned for the safety of the driver and occupants of the vehicle as well as his or her own safety. Typically, if various simple protocols are followed by both the law enforcement o ffi cer as well as the citizen, a safe outcome is more than likely. First and foremost, when you are being pulled over, you should immediately acknowledge the fact that you are aware that you are being pulled over by placing on your turn signal. Th erea ft er, you should attempt to pull onto a portion of the side of the road that fully removes both your vehicle and the police vehicle from the traveled portion of the roadway (i.e.-shoulder). A ft er both you and the police vehicle are safely o ff of the roadway, you should open your driver’s side window and place both of your hands upon the steering wheel so that the o ffi cer can visually observe both of your hands as he or she is approaching you. O ft en times, people make the mistake of reaching across their vehicle into their glove compartment or into their pockets for purposes of getting out their license, registration and insurance card as the o ffi cer is approaching their vehicle. Although law enforcement o ffi cers are highly trained in this regard, depending on the circumstances, they could potentially believe that you or the occupants of your vehicle are attempting to reach for a weapon or hide contraband. Obviously, such actions could potentially escalate an otherwise innocuous situation. A ft er the o ffi cer approaches your vehicle and requests your documentation, you should verbally advise the o ffi cer as to where in your vehicle the documentation is located and advise the o ffi cer that you are reaching for it. Th is will allow the o ffi cer to anticipate your moves inside the vehicle so they are not surprised. Additionally, you should immediately respond to any of the o ffi cer’s requests. Failure to do so could be a signal to the o ffi cer that you are attempting to hide something or that the o ffi cer’s safety may be in jeopardy. Importantly, when engaging in a conversation with the o ffi cer, you should be courteous and friendly regardless of whether or not you believe you committed a tra ffi c o ff ense. Of course, any aggressive or abusive language could cause to escalate the situation. From the o ffi cer’s perspective, he is only doing his job. Any arguments or positions you may have with respect to the situation are more properly raised in Municipal Court. From a lawyer’s perspective, it is generally much easier to have the summons dismissed outright or plea to a favorable deal when a client is courteous and respectful to the o ffi cer at the time the ticket is issued. On numerous occasions, I have seen law enforcement o ffi cers take notes when an individual is uncooperative, rude or abusive and then refuse to “work with” the prosecutor or the lawyer at the time a plea deal is sought. Basically, all of the above boils down to common courtesy and common sense. If you follow the o ffi cer’s instructions, are respectful and do not engage in any actions which the o ffi cer may construe as jeopardizing his or her safety, there will be no issues concerning the tra ffi c stop and you may receive the bene fi t of the doubt from the o ffi cer when it comes time to appear in tra ffi c court. On the other hand, if you are disrespectful, rude, abusive, and aggressive, chances are that the situation will escalate to the point where you may receive additional charges and may even be subject to arrest. commanding officer at Midway and was even the site of secret Cold War meetings between President Nixon and President Thieu of the Republic of Vietnam. During the military buildup leading to World War II and again during the Cold War, hundreds of buildings were constructed on two of the atoll’s is lands – Eastern and Sand. Unfortunate ly, the buildings were not built to last, and lead-based paint was used extensively. To day high levels of lead based paint are still found on some of the buildings and, more problematically, in soil surrounding them. This poses a danger to the refuge’s Laysan al batross colony, with as many as 10,000 chicks, or up to 3 percent of the hatchlings, dying
tional Wildlife Refuge and Battle of Midway National Memorial is a unique treasure in an ocean of blue. Named for its position mid way across the Pacific Ocean, Midway sits perched at the inter section of history, na ture, and culture. Over the years, many different communi ties have lived and left their mark on Midway Atoll. Native Hawai ian wayfinders learned and practiced their craft in the Northern Hawaiian Island chain near Midway. Feath er hunters and cable companies built some of the first structures on the atoll in the ear ly 20th century and for a generation, the U. S. Military relied on this tiny island in middle of the Pacific as a bulwark through two global

conflicts. Nearly three million birds nest for much of the year on Pihemanu (Hawaiian place name for Midway meaning loud din of birds) including the world’s largest population of albatrosses, Bonin petrels and endangered Laysan ducks. Midway is also a critical pupping ground for the United States’ most en dangered marine mammal, the Hawaiian monk seal, and it is one of only two places one of the world’s most endangered birds, the short-tailed alba tross, breeds. From June 4-7, 1942, the Battle of Midway was fought in the seas and skies around Midway Atoll. The American victory at Midway marked the turning point of the war in the Pacific and is considered one of the most important naval battles in U.S. History. Today Midway is a unique mix of time capsule and pristine seabird habitat and military memorials that pay tribute to the heroism and sacrifice of the veterans of Midway, explore the legacy left be hind by over a century of strategic and military use. The Officer-in-Charge House - also known as the Midway House - was de signed by the architect Albert Kahn and constructed in 1941 before the Bat tle of Midway during World War II. Over the years it has been home to the
from lead poisoning each year. The Service is working to clean-up the lead based paint in the buildings and soil that surrounds the buildings to create safer habitat for albatross. Seaplanes played a crucial and dangerous role as an observation and scout aircraft during WWII. As the Imperial Navy approached Midway, the U.S seaplane group sent out twice as many scout aircraft as compared to the Jap anese fleet. This allowed U.S. forces locate and preparing for the impending attack. The building was bombed during both the December 7, 1941, and June 4, 1942, attacks on Midway and housed the seaplanes that spotted the Japanese attack during the Battle of Midway. Today, the seaplane hangar remains a visible landmark of WWII. The Battle of Midway National Memorial designates Midway as a place of quiet reflection and honor to those who once served on and off its shores. The traces of lives, buildings and cultures are woven into fabric of Midway’s landscape. Nature and wildlife have reclaimed much of the island but the memories and sacrifices of those who served during one of our nation’s most challenging moments in history will never be forgotten.

Spice Recovery Spices can do a lot more than add pizzazz to your cooking. They offer many health benefits and help in healing. By Mia Ingui Cinnamon Cinnamon is actually one of the most powerful healing spices, and has become most famous for its ability to improve blood sugar control in people with diabetes. As little as 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon a day could cut triglycerides and total cholesterol levels by 12 to 30 percent. Cinnamon can even help prevent blood clots, making it especially heart smart. Cinnamon has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It's been shown to conquer E. coli and other types Have a toothache? Put a couple of whole cloves in your mouth. Let them soften a bit, then bite on them gently with good molars to release their oil. Then move them next to the painful tooth and keep them there for up to half an hour.
