HISTORIC SCHOOLHOUSES OF MONMOUTH COUNTY Self-drive tour | 10AM -3PM Sunday April 16 th , 2023
Take a trip through history on Sunday April 16, 2023 when six Mon mouth County Historic Schoolhouses will be open to the public from 10 AM to 3 PM. Included on this self-drive tour are the 1812 Montrose School (Colts Neck), the 1915 Court Street School (Freehold Borough), the 1847 West Freehold School, the 1862 Georgia Road School, the 1855 Old Ardena School (Howell), and the 1855 Blansingburg School (Wall). Visitors may start at any of the schools and visit as many as they wish at their own pace. Maps and information on the schools will be available at each site in hard copy and with QR code. This is a unique opportunity to explore each of the schools, some of which are seldom open, at your own pace all in one day. Due to the diligent work of several historic societies all of these buildings have been carefully restored and display many period artifacts including vintage desks, class attendance list and photographs from bygone eras, as well as original architectural details. These edifices remain as testament to the importance our forebearers placed on the need for education in the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries. Historic interpreters will be on hand to share how each school played a part in the story of the development of education in our area . Mark your April 2023 calendars for a journey through Monmouth County history. The six schools will be open to visitors on Sunday April 16, 2023 from 10 AM to 3 PM. More information on the history of the schools and a map with details of the self-drive tour is below. https://www.monmouth.edu/news/suggest/
