SMILE! IT’S GOOD FOR YOU If you like to smile, you’re in luck. Studies show that you benefit both emotionally and physically. A recent study published in Psychological Science reports that the act of smiling has a positive effect on our happiness and physical health. This can help the heart recover more

quickly after stressful events, altogether boosting our well-being. Researchers deduct that the act of smiling is so powerful because it actually can rewire your brain to make positive patterns more often than it does negative ones. Effect on Others Another study by Penn State University found that people who
smile appear to be more likable and courteous. This can help enhance your beauty in the eyes of others, who will take positively to your natural happiness. Everyone wants to be the person who walks in and lights up a room. Your level of social engagement also plays a role in improving your overall health, so spread the love and make new friends along the way. Smile More Smiling is obviously linked to happiness or humor, so what if you’re going through a particularly tough time, finding it hard to smile? Try to think happy thoughts. Do you have a memory or story that makes you smile? Repeat it to yourself during a time when you need a boost. If you have trouble conjuring up positive thoughts, surround yourself with those who can help you. Confident Smiles Some people are afraid to give off their best smile because they’re self-conscious about their teeth or gums. Even a subdued smile can have positive effects on your health, so don’t be afraid to give a closed-mouth grin.

A Thanksgiving Story: THE EARNEST PRAYER By Richard Mabey Jr.
One of the hardest working individuals, whom I have ever known in my life is my cousin, Robert Peter Knothe. Pete, as every one in the family knows him as, is the Man ager of Knothe Farms in Randolph Town ship. Having stayed at the Knothe Farm for many week-long visits, I can testify to just how hard working a man, Pete is. Seven days a week, he’s up at 5:30 in the morning to conquer a mile-long to do list. A day in the life of Cousin Pete might include fixing hinging on a barn to replacing a support pole on one of his greenhouses to doing an oil change on his farm truck. Pete Knothe is one of the single most disciplined and focused individuals I have ever known. He works at his family farm, from sunrise to sunset, just about every day. Cousin Pete and I share a birthday, that of the fifth of September. Pete’s a few years older than I am, and over the years, he has been like an older brother to me. I’ve learned a lot from Pete, from how to grow great tomatoes, to developing a deep re spect for nature, to understanding that hard work is the key to success in life. Pete served in the United States Air Force.
Yours truly (left hand side) and my good cousin, Robert Peter Knothe.
He saw action and was placed in harm’s way during the Vietnam War. It’s something that Pete doesn’t like to talk much about. I know that Pete was honored with commendations of heroism, but it’s something that he is very humble about. I’m not sure if it was the Thanksgiving of 1969 or of 1970. I remember that Grandpa and Grandma Kemmerer were still with us, on this side of Heaven’s Gate. I’m pretty sure that Pete’s grandparents, Edward and Francis Knothe, were also still with us at that memorable Thanksgiving table. I was in high school and Cousin Pete was in Vietnam. Pete’s Dad would always say grace at the long Thanksgiving table at the old Knothe Homestead. There would usually be 30 to 40 people seated at the se ries of tables, that would run from the dining room all the way to the living room. I don’t know how my Aunt Alice managed it all. She would always have kitchen help from her daughters and my mom and my sister. Still, it was an amazing accomplishment, to say the least. There was a moment of silence, before Uncle Pete began saying the bless ing, upon our Thanksgiving meal, that was over five decades ago. I remem ber Uncle Pete quietly, unassumingly saying, “well, I guess we’ll say the blessing.” And then a deep silence followed, people reverently folded their hands and earnestly bowed their heads. Obviously, I cannot remember Uncle Pete’s prayer, word for word. But I do remember the ending of Uncle Pete’s prayer. It went something like this,
“and Lord, we ask in Jesus’ name, please do bring my son home, safe and sound.” Then Uncle Pete broke down and cried. It was one of the very few times that I ever saw Uncle Pete cry. In about a minute’s time, after conclud ing his prayer, Uncle Pete got himself together and shouted out gleefully, “okay everybody, let’s eat!” Over my lifetime, I’ve heard many prayers said. Some were recited by el oquent ministers and priests. But none of those other prayers, could hold a candle to the heart-felt, earnest, sincere and deeply moving prayer that Uncle Pete gave that Thanksgiving Day. Those words, “Lord, we ask in Jesus’ name, please do bring my son home, safe and sound,” have often echoed in my heart and in my mind. Cousin Pete did come home from Vietnam, safe and sound. Is it possible that Uncle Pete’s words of earnest prayer provided protection for his only son, in the midst of being in harm’s way? It could never be scientifically proven. But do any of us really know the incredible positive power of prayer? There is an eternal truth: love knows no boundaries. It is the strongest force in the universe. It has the miraculous power to heal strife between in dividuals, bring wars to an end, and to form a cloak of protection for loved ones, no matter how far away they may be. WARM WEATHER HAS BEEN AFFECTING THE STATE OF NEW JERSEY POSITIVELY AND NEGATIVELY By Surabhi Ashok
Timmy’s Story: A SENSORY FRIENDLY BIRTHDAY By, Pam Teel Young Author Tim Rohrer, who has overcome many obstacles in his life due to his autism, is set to release his second children’s book. The book is a sequel to his first book, Timmy’s Story: A Story About Autism and Friendship . His first book, focuses on inclusion, and is based on his own past life experiences. His second book, Timmy’s Story: A Sensory Friendly Birthday, also is a reflection of his past, and teaches one about autism through the eyes of someone who lived it. For those with autism, sensory sensitivities may make birthday parties difficult to enjoy. Tim’s second book tells a true story, with that in mind, about how his teacher and his classmates made his birthday party one that he could enjoy. Tim’s brother Daniel, who is a senior at Allentown High School, is doing his senior practicum helping behind the scenes of “Tips4Inclusion.” He did the book editing for his brother. Tim has not only become an author but a speaker, self-advocate, and educator of disabilities. He has been asked to speak at schools, conferences, and has also received a commendation from the NJ State Senate and Assemblymen. He is also a managing partner of a teen founded nonprof it organization called 5Help Foundation. To learn more about Tim and the amazing resources he created, check out his website at: https://tips4inclusion.wixsite.com/disabilityinclusion. Tim’s new book is now available to purchase on Amazon. The winter of 2021-2022 was an unusu ally warm one for the state of New Jersey. While some may welcome the warmer temperatures, the effects of this atypical weather pattern have both positive and negative impacts on the state. One of the most notable benefits of the warm winter is that it has made it easier for people to get outside and engage in outdoor activities. Parks and other public spaces are seeing more visitors, and people are taking advantage of the mild weather to exercise and spend time with their fam ilies. Additionally, the warm winter helped to reduce heating costs for homeowners and businesses, resulting in savings on energy bills. However, the warm winter also had some negative effects on the state. For example, the warmer temperatures caused some plants and trees to begin blooming early, which could lead to a higher likelihood of damage from late-season frosts. Additionally, the lack of snow and ice could lead to water shortages in the summer, as much of New Jersey’s water supply
comes from snowmelt in the winter. Furthermore, the lack of snow and ice could also have a negative impact on the state’s tourism industry, as skiing, snow boarding, and other winter sports are popular activities for visitors. Many re sorts and businesses that rely on winter tourism may be impacted by the lack of snow and ice this year. Additionally, the warm winter could have implications for the state’s wildlife. Some animals, such as bears, may come out of hibernation early, while others may not be able to find enough food due to changes in the ecosystem.
Overall, warm winters have both positive and negative effects on the state of New Jersey. While some may enjoy the mild temperatures and the op portunities to engage in outdoor activities, others may be concerned about the impact on the environment and the economy. It remains to be seen how these effects will evolve and what the long-term implications will be for the state.

FAIRY TALE FOREST IN OAK RIDGE, NEW JERSEY By Surabhi Ashok On August 10th, the Fairy Tale Forest, an outdoor theme park that features cottages and recreations of scenes right out of the well-known Brother Grimm stories, reopened after being closed for almost twenty years. Founded in 1957 in Oak Ridge, New Jersey, the park holds a nostalgic element for parents and an en lightening experience for young children. There are a number of attractions among the trees, from the houses of Hansel and Gretel, a miniature Three Ring Circus, the Little Red School House where kids can sing along to rhymes, and Rapunzel’s tower. There is even an area called the Bluebird Stage, designated for various skits, magic performances, and dancing. Events such as Jack’s Traveling Pet Farm on October fifth and the Homespun Merry-Go-Round that takes inspiration from Marry Poppins on the fifth and sixth are on full-swing. According to their website, the Fairy Tale Forest even became one of the outdoor locations for Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” music video. The history of the forest dates back to 1953, when Paul Woehle, Sr., a German immigrant, drew from the childhood stories his mother used to read to him and set out to recreate that same excitement for future kids. Now, after the park shut down in 2003 due to competition, a member of the founding family once again operates the area. See website for holiday events. Admission rates are found on the website, and facility rental for parties or groups are allowed. Manalapan, New Jersey If your loved one needs care during the day, trust GoldenYears Care to put them in good hands! Recent studies have raised questions about the safety of secondhand vape smoke, as vaping has be come increasingly popular. While many view vaping as a safer alternative to traditional smoking, the potential health risks associated with secondhand exposure are becoming clearer. What We Know Vaping involves inhaling vapor from e-cigarettes, which typically contain nicotine, flavorings, and other chemicals. Unlike traditional cigarettes, which produce tar and a wide range of harmful byprod ucts, e-cigarettes produce an aerosol. However, this aerosol can still contain harmful substances, in cluding nicotine, heavy metals, and volatile organic compounds. Health Concerns Research indicates that secondhand exposure to vape smoke can pose risks, especially to vulnerable populations such as children and pregnant individuals. A recent study published in Tobacco Control found that non-smokers exposed to secondhand vape aerosol may experience increased respiratory issues and cardiovascular effects. Experts emphasize that while the risks may be lower than those associated with secondhand cigarette smoke, they are not negligible. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advises caution, noting that the long-term health effects of inhaling vape aerosol remain largely unknown. Regulatory Landscape In response to growing concerns, some cities and states have begun to regulate vaping in public spac es similarly to tobacco smoking. These measures aim to protect non-smokers from potential harm and limit the exposure of minors to vaping products. Conclusion While vaping is often marketed as a safer alternative to smoking, secondhand vape smoke is not without its risks. Ongoing research is essential to fully understand the implications for public health. For now, minimizing exposure to secondhand aerosol, particularly for vulnerable groups, remains a prudent approach. SECONDHAND VAPE SMOKE: UNDERSTANDING THE RISKS By Gabriel Mancuso

(609) 443-5330 (609) 443-5331 For Digital Marketing As most citizens of New Jersey know, municipal prosecutors will, generally, as a matter of course offer a “no point” or “zero point” violation as part of a plea bargain if you are charged with one of these low-level motor vehicle violations. The monetary cost of these “no point” or “zero point” violations are rather excessive in that you are required to pay a $250.00 surcharge for this “privilege.” The statute which provides this “no point” plea is called the unsafe driving statute. The basic theory in accepting a “no point” or “zero point” plea bargain is to potentially avoid motor vehicle points on your license in order to keep your auto insurance premiums lower and, potentially, to avoid the suspension of your driving privileges where you are in danger of accumulating 12 motor vehicle points which will result in a temporary suspension of driving privileges. However, it should be pointed out that there are a number of situations in which your acceptance of such a “no point” or “zero point” plea bargain may adversely affect your rights without your knowledge. One such situation is where you have already previously pled guilty to unsafe driving on more than one occasion. Your third guilty plea to unsafe driving within a certain period of time will subject you to four motor vehicle points when you may be under the mistaken belief that you will not be receiving any motor vehicle points. Another such situation where you potentially will need legal representation is where the low-level motor vehicle violation is the result of a motor vehicle accident. The bottom line is that, regardless of what type of motor vehicle violation you are charged with, you should seek the advice of an attorney before appearing in Municipal Court by yourself and entering into a plea bargain which may subject you to other legal ramifications of which you were not aware. Typically, when we receive a call for a motor vehicle violation, we initially attempt to obtain as much information as possible from the potential client to determine whether or not they will require legal representation given their individual circumstances. Accordingly, please feel free to contact us to discuss your individual situation to determine whether or not legal representation is required. Aldredge is a Board Certified Periodontal Specialist DO YOU NEED A LAWYER IN MUNICIPAL COURT? BY JOHN BAZZURRO As indicated on our website, there are numerous charges that are heard in the Municipal Courts in the State of New Jersey. These range from low level motor vehicle violations such as going through a stop sign, careless driving, failure to maintain your lane and other charges that generally carry very low fines and two or less motor vehicle points. If you have been charged with any motor vehicle violation that carries more than two motor vehicle points upon a conviction, we suggest that you obtain the advice of counsel before going to court. The purpose of this article is to provide the reader with some information as to whether or not they need legal representation in Municipal Court on a low-level motor vehicle violation that carries two or less motor vehicle points.

MAY 2023 Th e second violation relates to items hanging o ff of your rearview mirror and other obstructions of the windshield and front side windows. New Jersey law prohibits the operation of any vehicle which is “constructed, equipped or loaded” so as to “unduly” interfere with the driver’s vision. New Jersey case law has held that items hanging from the rearview mirror could fall under the language of this statute. However, the statute also includes the existence of stickers, signs, radar detectors, navigation systems or any other device or mechanism attached to the front windshield. Th e third violation relates to tinted windows. Th e same statute that restricts the hanging of anything from the rear view mirror also has been construed to hold that tinted windows constitute such an obstruction of view and, as such, the tinting of any three of your front windows would constitute appropriate cause for a law enforcement o ffi cer to pull you over even where you have not committed a moving tra ffi c violation. Th e fourth violation relates to broken lights on your vehicle such as headlights, taillights, brake lights and signal lights. Even where you have not committed a moving tra ffi c violation, a law enforcement o ffi cer has appropriate cause to e ff ectuate a tra ffi c stop where he observes that one of your lights is not operational. It should be noted that the fi nes and penalties for these violations, in and of themselves, are not excessive. However, as is o ft en the case, the law enforcement o ffi cers, upon e ff ectuating a tra ffi c stop will then observe that the driver or passengers in the vehicle have violated other motor vehicle and/or criminal statutes such as driving while intoxicated (DWI), driving under the in fl uence (DUI), possession of controlled dangerous substances (CDS), possession of drug paraphernalia, open containers of alcohol in a vehicle, possession of a weapon or any other o ff enses which the o ffi cer may observe during a tra ffi c stop. Once you are pulled over for a valid reason, it is di ffi cult for an attorney to challenge the tra ffi c stop on the basis of articulable suspicion or probable cause. Accordingly, in light of all of the above, it is prudent to make sure that your motor vehicle complies with all of the above statutes in order to prevent being pulled over by law enforcement even where you have not actually committed a moving tra ffi c violation. JOHN T. BAZZURRO, Esq. CERTIFIED BY THE SUPREME COURT OF NEW JERSEY AS A CIVIL TRIAL ATTORNEY LAW OFFICES OF JOHN T. BAZZURRO, LLC 200 Meco Drive, Millstone Township, New Jersey 08535 Phone (732) 410-5350 Fax (732) 810-0006 premiums lower and, potentially, to avoid the suspension of your driving privileges where you are in danger of accumulating 12 motor vehicle points which will result in a temporary suspension of driving privileges. Avoid Being Pulled Over by The Police? By John Bazzurro Obviously, the easy way to avoid being pulled over is to refrain fr om violating any tra ffi c violations. However, in my practice, I have recently seen a number of people pulled over for reasons other than moving violations under the tra ffi c code. Because the fi rst defense for attorneys in representing individuals in municipal court is to challenge whether or not the o ffi cer had appropriate cause under New Jersey law to actually make the stop in the fi rst place, any “legal” reason that an o ffi cer has to e ff ectuate a tra ffi c stop makes the attorneys’ defense of any case much more di ffi cult. Other than moving violations, the four most used violations by o ffi cers to validate a potential, otherwise “illegal” tra ffi c stop have to do with simple equipment violations that can be resolved rather quickly and inexpensively. Th e fi rst equipment violation relates to the “improper” covering of a license plate by a license plate frame. License plate frames are generally the plastic “frames” that are given out by most car dealers or that can be bought in any automotive store. New Jersey law prohibits a motor vehicle from having a license plate frame which conceals or otherwise obscures “any marking” on the license plate. Th us, if a portion of the words “New Jersey” or “Garden State” is obscured on your license plate in any way, a police o ffi cer has the legal right to e ff ectuate a tra ffi c stop.
