QUESTION: What is Optomap retinal imaging?
ANSWER:
The optomap ultra-widefield retinal image is a unique technology that captures more than 80% of your retina in one panoramic image while traditional imaging methods typically only show 15% of your retina at one time. Your retina (located in the back of your eye) is the only place in the body where blood vessels can be seen directly. This means that in addition to eye conditions, signs of other diseases (for example, stroke, heart disease, hypertension and diabetes) can also be seen in the retina. Early detection of life-threatening diseases like cancer, stroke, and cardiovascular disease. It also facilitates early protection from vision impairment or blindness. Early signs of these conditions can show on your retina long before you notice any changes to your vision or feel pain. While eye exams include a look at the front of the eye to evaluate health and prescription changes, a thorough screening of the
free. It is suitable for every age, even children. The capture takes less than a second. Images are available immediately and you can see your own retina and exactly what your eye care practitioner sees in a 3D animation. Most importantly, early detection means successful treatments can be administered and reduces the risk to your sight and health.

Being C-Bunny Never Stop Fighting to Be Heard! By, Pam Teel
Christina Sarni grew up in Millstone Township. Born with hearing loss, school life was not easy for her. It led her to a lot of communication issues with both her teach- ers and her peers. Having to use assistive listening devices with her teachers in order to hear what they were saying, and trying to keep up on peer conversations was very difficult. When she was in the Middle School, Christina often found herself bullied and friend- less. She will truthfully tell you that it is not a part of her life that she likes to remember, but it might have been the push that made her strive even harder to do something with her life regardless of her disability. Christina had dreams, dreams to be someone one day other than the hearing im- paired kid from school. She wanted to prove to the ones who ignored her, and even more to herself that your disability doesn’t define who you are. That’s exactly what she set out to do. With intensive speech therapy and lip reading and her faith in God, Christina moved forward towards her goals. She had her mind set on being some kind of performer and created her alter ego “C-Bunny.” With true grit and determination, she pushed forward to make her dreams come true. She had a love for music and dance, and so she combined the two. She watched many videos, especially the Michael Jackson ones and she taught herself hip hop dancing. She per- formed in front of crowds in places like Six Flags and Hershey Park. She was also a part of the Michael Jackson Tribute at Beatstock 09.
In 2010, she auditioned for Grammy Award Winner T-Pain. Setting her hearing aids aside, she felt the beat of the music, and freestyled. When she finished, the others au- ditioning around her, including T-Pain, applauded her. T-Pain was so touched by her performance that he gave her a spot as a backup dancer. There, she got to be in her first official music video, which was the soundtrack song, “This Instant,” for the movie Step Up 3D. It was quite an experience that she got to perform live with him. She then went on to try out in front of Paula Abdul on a dancing show on Television called “Live to Dance.” C-Bunny embraced 10 million viewers with her dancing and her story. Ms. Abdul told her that she was a totally brilliant example that nothing should ever hold you back. Christina wasn’t done there. She had always been drawn to watching WWE and decided to sign up for professional wrestling school. Christina performed as C-bunny the hip-hop pop-locking elbow dropping hearing impaired wrestler in many shows in different states. She also worked as an extra for the WWE several times. Even though the hits were hard, Christina took them like a champ and pushed on harder. According to her dad, Christina had always been highly motivated and she would never give up on anything. Her family has always been her rock pushing her through. After meeting filmmaker, TomWilton, at one of her trainings, Tom wanted to embrace her story and created a documentary on her life. This documentary “Being C-Bunny” has won several awards including “Most Inspirational” and “Best Short Documentary” in Florida, New York, and it was also accepted into California’s prestigious film festival Cinequest. “Being C-Bunny” is available to the public right now on you tube. The feedback has been amazing and was advocated for by WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley. Christina has turned her focus onto becoming a motivational speaker and teaching others that having a disability doesn’t define who you are. Though Middle School was not the best time for her, Christina is proud to go back to the school and see her accomplishments highlighted in a glass showcase. Christina always wanted to be larger than life; well I would say that she accomplished that! To those students who might have someone in your class with a disability, be nice and kind. People with disabilities are no different than you. They want the same things you do, to have friends, to be included, and to share experiences. “Never stop fighting to be heard.”

What is a bunion? A bunion is a bump on the first metatarsophalangeal joint (MTPJ), the joint where your big toe and foot connect. When bone alignment problems in your foot force your big toe to tilt toward the other toes instead of pointing up, it pushes the MTPJ outward and causes the bump. Bunions usually appear on the big toe, but can also appear on the little toe. These little toe bunions are called tailor’s bunions or bunionettes. They’re caused by bone misalignment, just as big bunions are. What are the signs of a bunion? The bony bump is the tell-tale sign, but you can also expect other symptoms, including soreness, pain, and red skin around the bump. Many bunion sufferers also have restricted movement in their big toe. How do I treat a bunion? At A Step Up Podiatry, LLC, bunion treatment usu- ally starts with a clinical examination and Xrays to determine its severity. Some treatment options include:
• Custom orthotics to redistribute foot pressure • Medication to relieve pain • Cortisone injections for long-term pain relief • Ice application to reduce inflammation and soreness
• Taping, padding, or splinting to correct position and decrease stress • New footwear with a wider toe box • Surgical treatment

Ways to Help Your Loved One Transition to Assisted Living
Is your loved one getting ready to move into an assisted living community? That can be a difficult time emotionally, both, for the senior and the family members. How can you help make it easier for your parent or relative so that they actually look forward to
the transition into their new home? Here are some useful tips:
A S W E A G E
Make the new room a familiar setting: We all have our favorite items that remind us of home. Walking into a bare room could make your loved one take an instant dislike to their new home in the assisted living community. Make sure you prepare the room ahead of time to make it seem as much like home as possible. Help staff deliver more personalized care: Take the time to share your loved one’s likes and dislikes as well as routine with the staff at the assisted living community. Having this knowledge ahead of time will allow staff to deliver better, more personalized care and help your senior settle in comfortably. Work ahead of time with staff on an emotional care plan: Your loved one is likely to experience anxiety and a waning sense of self-esteem when moving into an assisted living community. Trained staff is good at managing those emotional needs but they need to be made aware of your senior’s specific needs, so do this before you move your loved one into their new home. A well-thought out plan will work nicely towards helping seniors adapt to the new environment and establish their sense of identity. Create a communications calendar: Your loved one may or may not ask the question, but you can be sure they are wonder- ing how often they will see you and other family members, how often you will call them, if and when can they visit you, and so on. Come up with a calendar and display it where they can see it easily. Don’t show your own anxiety: It’s easy for your loved one’s anxiety to become more intense when they sense that you are anxious too. Even though it is not rational, it is normal to feel somewhat guilty when leaving your loved one for the first time. Remember, you felt like that on your child’s first day at kindergarten too! Know that you are doing the right thing and exit with an energetic, enthusiastic smile that will make your loved one feel more relaxed.

Home Health: Reducing Toxics Inside Your House By Becoming A Label Reader By, Sophie Armando
Until recently, indoor air pollution has been largely ignored as a source of exposure to toxicity. But studies have shown that levels of harmful chemicals in indoor air may exceed the standards set by the EPA to protect us from harmful chemicals. You can reduce the problem by using products that are free of toxic chemicals whenever possible. Simple changes in our everyday routines can reduce our long-term exposure to low levels of potentially harmful substances— changes in the products we buy, changes in the way we clean our houses, changes in how we take care of our yard. These changes will not only make our homes safer; they may also save us money. Whenever possible, buy products that are free of toxic chemicals. Alternatives are available. The market for nontoxic household products is growing in response to customer demand. When purchasing products, take a minute to carefully read the label. Look for products that appear to disclose all their ingredients. The words “warning,” “danger,” and "poison" indicate that the product’s ingredients are harmful. Choose the least hazardous product to do the job. Before you use a product, carefully read the directions and follow the instructions. Be sure to use the correct amount of a product. Remember, you won’t get twice the results by using twice as much. Select products (cleaners, shampoos, etc.) made from plant-based materials, such as citrus, seed, vegetable, or pine oils. By doing so, you are selecting products that are biodegradable and generally less toxic. These products provide the additional benefit of a good principle to follow is to always look for ways to reduce or eliminate the use of toxic chemicals as we go about our daily lives, in order to keep our homes healthy for our families and pets. Look for key words on labels and choose the least hazardous product. Choose pump spray containers instead of aerosols. Pressurized aerosol products often produce a finer mist that is more easily in- haled. Aerosols also put unnecessary volatile organic chemicals into your indoor air when you use them. Ask for unbleached paper products or products bleached with hydrogen peroxide or oxygen, which produce less pollution during papermaking. Look for products with the EPA's Design for the Environment logo to help you find safer choices that won't sacrifice quality or performance. Source: Minnesota Pollution Control

Certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Civil Trial Attorney Member of New Jersey and New York Bars JOHN T. BAZZURRO, Esq. David P. Levine, Esq. Of Counsel to the Firm Michael B. Shaw, Esq., Associate Attorney 200 Meco Drive, Millstone Twp., NJ jtbazzurro@bazzurrolaw.com • BAZZURROLAW.COM It should be noted that the fines and penalties for these violations, in and of themselves, are not excessive. However, as is often the case, the law enforcement officers, upon effectuating a traffic stop will then observe that the driver or passengers in the vehicle have violated other motor vehicle and/or criminal statutes such as driving while intoxicated (DWI), driving under the influence (DUI), possession of controlled dangerous substances (CDS), possession of drug paraphernalia, open containers of alcohol in a vehicle, possession of a weapon or any other offenses which the officer may observe during a traffic stop. Once you are pulled over for a valid reason, it is difficult for an attorney to challenge the traffic stop on the basis of articulable suspicion or probable cause. Accordingly, in light of all of the above, it is prudent to make sure that your motor vehicle complies with all of the above statutes in order to prevent being pulled over by law enforcement even where you have not actually committed a moving traffic violation. Avoid Being Pulled Over by The Police By John Bazzurro Obviously, the easy way to avoid being pulled over is to refrain from violating any traffic violations. However, in my practice, I have recently seen a number of people pulled over for reasons other than moving violations under the traffic code. Because the first defense for attorneys in representing individuals in municipal court is to challenge whether or not the officer had appropriate cause under New Jersey law to actually make the stop in the first place, any “legal” reason that an officer has to effectuate a traffic stop makes the attorneys’ defense of any case much more difficult. Other than moving violations, the four most used violations by officers to validate a potential, otherwise “illegal” traffic stop have to do with simple equipment violations that can be resolved rather quickly and inexpensively. The first equipment violation relates to the “improper” covering of a license plate by a license plate frame. License plate frames are generally the plastic “frames” that are given out by most car dealers or that can be bought in any automotive store. New Jersey law prohibits a motor vehicle from having a license plate frame which conceals or otherwise obscures “any marking” on the license plate. Thus, if a portion of the words “New Jersey” or “Garden State” is obscured on your license plate in any way, a police officer has the legal right to effectuate a traffic stop. The second violation relates to items hanging off of your rearview mirror and other obstructions of the windshield and front side windows. New Jersey law prohibits the operation of any vehicle which is “constructed, equipped or loaded” so as to “unduly” interfere with the driver’s vision. New Jersey case law has held that items hanging from the rearview mirror could fall under the language of this statute. However, the statute also includes the existence of stickers, signs, radar detectors, navigation systems or any other device or mechanism attached to the front windshield. The third violation relates to tinted windows. The same statute that restricts the hanging of anything from the rear view mirror also has been construed to hold that tinted windows constitute such an obstruction of view and, as such, the tinting of any three of your front windows would constitute appropriate cause for a law enforcement officer to pull you over even where you have not committed a moving traffic violation. The fourth violation relates to broken lights on your vehicle such as headlights, taillights, brake lights and signal lights. Even where you have not committed a moving traffic violation, a law enforcement officer has appropriate cause to effectuate a traffic stop where he observes that one of your lights is not operational.

H E A L T H Y M I N D & S O U L Fallacy #2: Anticipatory grief is the same as conventional grief, just starting earlier. A major misconception is that anticipatory grief is merely conventional (post death) grief that begins earlier. There is not a fixed volume of grief to be experienced, implying that the amount of grief experienced in anticipation of the loss will decrease the remaining grief that will need to be experienced after the death. Fallacy #3: Only a patient’s family members can experience anticipatory grief; the patient experiences depression. While these domains may overlap, they have distinctly separate properties for both patients and members of their social networks. Anticipatory grief and depression can be assessed and treated as separate mental health issues by using measures specifically developed for anticipatory grief. Fallacy #4: Different types of grief can be treated the same. Several studies have provided clinical data documenting that grief following an unanticipated death differs from anticipatory grief. Fallacy #5: We cannot predict who is likely to experience anticipatory grief. A number of risk factors and protective fac- tors relative to anticipatory grief have been identified. Anticipatory grief is more likely to occur among individuals with de- pendent relationships, limited external social support, or even discomfort with close relationships. People with lower levels of education, those with neuroticism, or those undergoing a spiritual crisis are also more likely to be at risk of developing anticipatory grief. However, anticipatory grief is less likely to occur when the death is accepted by the patient and the pa- tient’s social network. When death acceptance rates are higher, there is decreased anxiety, depression, and anticipatory grief. Therefore, assessment for risk and treatment, as needed, using psychotherapy to address death acceptance may be useful to patients and their social networks. To read more about this topic, please visit www.cancer.gov. What Is Anticipatory Grief? Anticipatory grief refers to a grief reaction that occurs in anticipation of an impending loss. Anticipatory grief is becom- ing increasingly recognized as an issue that can heighten distress for both patients and their social networks. The term an- ticipatory grief is most often used when discussing the families of dying persons, although dying individuals themselves can experience anticipatory grief. Anticipatory grief includes many of the same symptoms of grief after a loss. Anticipatory grief has been defined as “the total set of cognitive, affective, cultural, and social reactions to expected death felt by the patient and family.” Anticipatory grief has been empirically associated with escalated distress, pain, and medical complications. When antici- patory grief needs are met, individuals are less likely to experience these negative outcomes at the end of life. Fallacy #1: Anticipatory grief affects everyone. Anticipatory grief cannot be assumed to be present merely because a warning of life-threatening illness has been given or because sufficient time has elapsed from the onset of illness until death. Approximately 25% of patients with incurable cancer experience anticipatory grief.

Get to Know Your Banana A banana has been chemically ripened if it is brown spotted with a green stalk. If the stalk is black, the banana is naturally ripened. Bananas turn black in the refrigera- tor mainly because of the chemical reactions in their peel. Bananas can be stored in the refrigerator for few days. Despite the peel of banana becoming dark, its content will remain firm and delicious. Coating the banana with or- ganic wax to prevent contact with the oxygen of the air can also slow down the blackening of the skin. Another solution is to peel the bananas beforehand, put them in a sealed freezer bag and then store them in the fridge. Coating them with little bit of fresh lemon juice can help to reduce its darkening process even more.
