Roundup was initially patented as a metal chelator (binds metals) and as an antimicrobial (antibiotic). The active ingredient is glyphosate, currently sold as a broad spectrum organophosphate herbicide for killing weeds. Once sprayed, glyphosate is taken up by all parts of the plant. It inhibits the plants ability to form aromatic amino acids. Glyphosate also binds up minerals making them unavailable to the plant. Aromatic amino acids are the building blocks for our neurotransmitters (serotonin, dopamine, etc…) Humans do not have the ability to make these - plants, fungi and bacteria do. We depend on the plants and our gut bacteria to make these amino acids. Glyphosate residues on our food inhibit our gut bacteria frommaking them depleting our ability to make neurotransmitters. Glyphosate residues also bind and deplete our minerals (iron, manganese, zinc, cobalt, copper, molybdenum) as well as minerals in the soil. Roundup Ready Crops are genetically modified to survive the spraying of Roundup. Currently these include soy, corn, canola, beets, alfalfa, cotton and tobacco. Glyphosate is also used for crop desiccation and glyphosate residue is also on grains, oil seeds, orchards and vineyards and legumes. High amounts of residue have been found on Cheerios (babies favorite finger food!!) Due to wind drift, it has been found on organic crops as well. Glyphosate has been named a probable human carcinogen and numerous lawsuits have resulted in multi million dollar awards to former Roundup applicators who now have non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Human toxicity is due to the effect on the gut microbiome, loss of aromatic amino acids, mineral depletion and loss of sulfate sources needed for detoxification.

To reduce your burden of glyphosate: first stop using it!!!!! 2 )Eat organic food, 3) take some sauerkraut juice or apple cider vinegar daily as it contains a microbe (Acetobacter) that can metabolize glyphosate, 4) Add pre and probiotics, brightly colored fruits and vegetables and organic eggs to your diet, 5) Replace minerals with bone broth and fulvic/humic acid, 6) replace sulfur with cruciferous vegetables, garlic, and onions, 7) replace sulfur transporters (found in cilantro, parsley, dandelion greens, thyme, basil), 8) replace aromatic amino acids (with supplements of tryptophan, tyrosine, and others if needed), 9) use far infrared sauna for detox, 10) work to ban glyphosate for your health, the health of your family and friends, and the health of the planet.
