PET PAGES Pick your Paw Animal Rescue Conveniently Located at the Freehold Mall By Pam Teel

Pick Your Paw Animal Rescue is a small, grassroots network of 10 to 12 animal lovers working together to rehabilitate 6 to 10 rescued dogs at a time, until that rescue is ready for placement as a companion animal. They pull dogs from local New Jersey kill-shelters, the New York City Animal Care and Control’s nightly “To Be Destroyed” List, and Philadelphia’s Animal Care and Control. They are committed to providing spay/neuter, all appropriate medical treatment, foster homes, training, socializing, and creating behavioral improvement plans for every dog that enters Pick Your Paw Animal Rescue. Pick Your Paw makes a lifetime commitment to each dog to help them become stable pets and to match them to their best forever home. Education of the adopter and general public are vital components of our program as we work to end the ease with which people give up on, and ‘throw away’ their family pets. Each dog that exits a shelter, a surrendering home, or a transport vehicle hears the same whispered words, “You are safe. You will not be hurt again. You will find your home, I promise you.” In every walk, play date, training class, adoption event or adopter interview, this promise is made good. All of their dogs are placed in foster homes. Dogs are fully vetted, providing the same level of veterinary care for the rescue dogs that they provide to our their family pets. They consult with animal behaviorists to address issues that dogs enter the program with in order to make them more highly adoptable. Dogs have attended and graduated from Canine Good Citizen classes. All applicants are carefully screened, including a comprehensive reference check (veterinarian and per- sonal references), multiple phone interviews, and home checks. Follow up check and calls continue past the adoption. They provide support, advice, and continued contact for each adopting family. They always have a few dogs at the center each day. How many dogs they have there depends on how many volunteers and if their fosters can drop them off. If there is a particular dog that someone is interested in meeting, they can get prescreened by filling out an adoption application and can arrange a meet n’ greet in the adoption center. The rescue is an all dog breed rescue. They also help educate the public to create a different viewpoint of the pit bull terrier, which in shelters need the most help. Pick Your Paw Animal Rescue is a volunteer based, non- profit, 501(c )3 organization. The location of the adoption center is on the lower level of the mall by Sears. Hours are Monday and Tuesday 12pm to 6:30pm. Wed- Sat-11am to 6:30, Sunday 11am to 5:30pm. The organization is 100% Volunteer based, 100% donation funded and 100% foster based so without the help of volunteers, fosters and the public donations they cannot run the rescue. They also sell merchandise to raise money along with holding in store fundraisers. Some fundraisers that are coming up are: March 23rd - Talking Dog by trainer Sam Wike. Sam goes over what your dog is trying to tell you with its body language. March 28th - Chick Flick Movie Night - Join us for a movie with the PYP pups. March 31st & April 6th = Pictures for Easter with your pet. We have photographer coming in take pictures of your pet with a Easter Bunny (if your pet tolerates it) or just with Easter background. All Events require you to register in advance. They can do so through the website http://pickyourpaw.org/events/ or by coming into the center or calling the center.
