KIDS Millstone Township BSA- Troop 116 Honor Their Newest Eagle Scouts By Pam Teel

The adult leaders of Troop 116 took great pleasure in announcing that six of their scouts have completed their requirements for Eagle Scout and have been examined by an Eagle Scout Board of Review and were found worthy of the rank of Eagle Scout. The newest Eagle Scouts and their projects include: Luke D. Depinho- Designed and led the construction of an outdoor garden class- room in the courtyard of the Millstone Township Elementary school. The classroom area has four raised beds constructed of a durable, maintenance free material. Each bed is hooked up to an automatic irrigation system. A center island with a stone walkway was created that includes a sitting area with benches that can convert into desks or a picnic table, as well as a sundial, a rain gauge/ thermometer, and a bird feeder. The creation of a working garden area not only provides an aesthetic improvement of the courtyard, but gives students the opportunity to learn about the process of growing plants, the plant life cycle, and lessons on the importance of farming and climate sustainability in a hands on classroom setting. Jordan Daniel Lisnow- Planned, designed, and managed the installation of a safety sign and flower garden at Rocky Brook Park in Millstone. He created a sign that was installed in the park to assist park goers as to the proper ages for the use of the playground equipment. A nearby area was landscaped by the cleanup of the ground where all rocks and tree branches were removed and the ground was leveled. A flower garden was assembled and framed and placed in the ground. It was filled with topsoil and perennial flowers which will provide a pleasing view for park goers. Nicholas Luke Meier- Managed the design, the build and the construction of an 8 ft. x 4 ft. x 2 ft. wooden flower/garden box and the revitalization of one other pre-existing box to benefit the residents of the Heritage of Elton Corner (a senior housing complex). The proj- ect entailed building the boxes and securing the same with galvanized hardware, bringing in 6 yards of top soil and planting a variety of Fall vegetables for the newly formed Resident Garden Club to enjoy. Noah Lee Meier- Planned and managed a project that benefited the residents of Elton Corner. The project consisted of building 3 wooden benches to be utilized by the residents. The benches were constructed of wood with galvanized hardware. All three benches were installed with concrete footings to ensure longevity. The benches provide a safe place for the residents to rest. Many are disabled and were in need of a resting place while walking their dogs, strolling, or gardening in the rear of the complex. Andrew Joseph Raccuglia- Organized and led the construction and installa- tion of a wooden informational kiosk outside of the Monmouth Battlefield State Park Visitor Center. The kiosk was desired by the park to easily provide information to visitors, especially during the hours that the center is closed. With the help of the Park Management, Local car- penters, and numerous Scout and parent volunteers, Andrew built a kiosk designed to hold maps and notices of state park events for the facility year round.

Jared Scott Skidmore- Organized a project at the Laurita Equestrian Center in New Egypt which specifically helped the Reindancer Ther- apeutic Riding Program, an initiative to provide therapy through horseback riding for those in need. The center had an electrical fence system years ago that was fully functioning but had recently fallen into an unusable state. Jared’s task was to make a functioning system for all the paddocks, which included nailing in insulators on each of the fence posts to hold up the wire, digging trenches under select gates in order to reach certain stretches of fencing, install- ing the wire itself along all the fencing and through every insulator, and installing the solar chargers on T- posts and connecting them to ground rods; all of which had to be hammered five and a half feet into the ground. An Eagle Scout Court of Honor was held on November 30th, at 11 am, at Saint Joseph Church in Millstone Township. We here at The Millstone Times would like to acknowledge these fine young men for all of their achievements in giving back to our community and for all of their hard work, time and dedication that they put into becoming an Eagle Scout. Keep up the great work!
