Robbinsville-Allentown Ice Hockey 2019-20 Season Preview

Background: Robbinsville ice hockey program began in 2006-7. Robbinsville-Allentown High Schools began to coop together in 2010-11. After a 2-year absence, Coach Dan Bergan returns to the team for his 12th season with a record of 134- 99-14 and 10 straight States appearances. Preview 2019-20: I’m very excited about our team for 2019-20. While we suffered considerable losses to graduation this year including players like All CVC goalie Justin Cooper, first line forward Liam Hartmann and first pair Dman Ryan D'Auria, we have the opportunity for new leadership within our roster. It will be a different season with a younger group of players providing us with more depth upfront and on the blueline despite the loss of outstanding Senior forward Nick Lawrence due to a season-ending injury. Returning forwards senior Captain Jack Pallitto and junior Captain Mitch Ducalo were All-CVC First teamers last year. Junior forward Assistant Captain Ty Thomas is a reliable player that will get major minutes this season and we are looking for big production from him. Senior forwards Joey Colamarino and Paul Cacace have become solid wingers that will allow us to run 3, if not 4, lines in many games this year. Junior Bobby Grimes is an offensive force with his speed, puck handling and passing skills. We have a highly skilled forward in Junior TedWittenborn that will be a tough matchup for anyone we play. Sophomore Charlie Pallitto has the speed and tenacity to provide a dangerous scoring threat on the wing. We have another impact forward soph in Jack Battistelli with a high-end freshman JP Sferra to wedge into a deep set of forward lines. Sophs Pedro Ferreira and Alex Stavrou will provide competition up front with freshman Anthony Toto and Jake Paglione looking to make their mark in 2019-20. Our early season defensive depth took a blowwith an injury to Senior Captain Jeremy VanDurenwho is anticipated to give us a big boost with a late season return. We will still feature a group that consists of outstanding junior Captain Shane Martin, junior standout Tyler Guttormsen and soph Marcu Gallicchio to build around. We welcome freshman blueliners Jaiden Gingras, Raymond Corneau and Patrick Crome to our blue line corps. Sophs Saige Moore and Caroline Gensingerreturn to give us a deep pool of defensemen to compete for icetime. In net we have Senior Mike Zuppa, a superb athlete and the type of fierce competitor that gets better every time he is on the ice. Mike is backed up by promising sophomore Chase Williams. Summary: We look forward to a good “bounce back” season. We will take a huge step up in competition in our non- conference games playing 2018-19 State Champions Ridge (Group B) and Morris Knolls. (Group A) I think we will have 3-4 strong lines to run at opponents but the key, as always, will be our play in the defensive end. As for expectations this year, I can honestly say we are the type of team that can beat anyone on a given night…or…lose to anyone on a given night. We need to play high-tempo, structured, unselfish, high-IQ hockey to be at our best. We’ll see how quickly we adjust to that mindset as a team. If we do it consistently, I won’t put any ceiling on what we can achieve.
