Monroe Township News | As We Age Millstone Seniors Organization Giving Back To Their Community By, Pam Teel

The Seniors Organization of Millstone are busy giving back to their com- munity. Through monthly meetings, they discuss what will be needed to be collected to help those in need in both Millstone and Roosevelt Township. On the second Tuesday of each month, they collect food donations at the Millstone Township Community Center, located at 470 Stagecoach Road, for their food bank program. The food bank serves 15- 20 families in need each month, and it is run by President, Margaret Patterson, her four Board mem- bers, and volunteer Anita Hahn of Millstone. You can drop of food donations on Feb. 15th and March 16th from 10am to 12pm. For township residents wishing to donate food items throughout the year, a bin will be available for food drop off at the home of Anita Hahn, at 23 Fern Drive. (Fern Drive is off of Yellow meeting House Road.) You must first register for a food box. Call Anita Hahn at 732-668-1377 or Margaret Patterson at 609- 259 -7867 to register. A schedule will be provided with dates of food pickup. Boxes are to be picked up monthly. The seniors also make up Easter baskets for those in need, fill backpacks with school supplies for each new year, collect Thanksgiving food items, sup- ply gift cards to the Shop Rite for people to purchase turkeys, and provide children’s toys in December (differs every year). The seniors are able to do all of this with the support and help of neighbor- hood volunteers and businesses. Anita Hahn helps out the seniors by raising funds on Facebook and through- out the town. This coming summer, it will be seventeen years that she has been helping raise money for families in need. You can find updated information periodically on her Facebook page under Anita Sally Hahn, The Millstone Township Neighborhood page, The Millstone Township Community site, and the Millstone Township Families in Need site.

Ms. Hahn, who acts like a liaison for the seniors, stated that she wouldn’t be able to do what she is doing without the support of the Millstone Community. She feels Millstone is such a unique town where its residents are always dedicated to helping families in need.

The seniors are thankful for both their volunteers and local businesses for their huge contributions. Some of the town businesses include: Frogbridge Day Camp, Matt Merritt Real Estate/Keller Williams, the state Troopers of Troop C Hamilton Barracks and the Girl Scout Troops #157 and #007, to name a few. Also they are grateful for the generous residents in town who have made amazing monetary donations. If you are a senior living in town and would like to be a part of the Senior Organization please call: Margaret Patterson at 609-259-7867. Right now the focus is on Easter. If you would like to donate items for Easter, the seniors are looking for wrapped Easter candy. You can drop off candy at Anita Hahn’s house at: 23 Fern Drive, Millstone Township, anytime before Easter. (There will be a drop off bin outside on her driveway) or you can drop off candy on February 15th or March 16th at the Community Center between 10am-12pm. Thank You Seniors for always thinking about those people in need and for making a difference in your own community!
