Congregation Anshei Roosevelt Doing Their Share to Make a Difference By Pam Teel

During these uncertain times in our lives, Congregation Anshei Roosevelt, in conjunc- tion with Roosevelt Community4u food bank, is doing what they can to help people in need during this corona virus outbreak by providing relief boxes full of supplies and food. Headed by Rabbi Moshe Hezrony and his wife Sivan, they have already handed out over 350 relief boxes weekly for the last month to those in need, not just in Roosevelt but in neighboring towns as well. Using the synagogue as a home base, they are able to stockload supplies and food do- nations in order to put together these relief boxes. Receiving generous donations from local companies such as Target, Home Depot, Ossem USA, Just4Wheels, Enterprise (Lawrenceville), and others, and in working with many local food banks and organi- zations, they are able to continue delivering food and supplies to seniors, shut-ins, and anyone in need. The Congregation has also been putting together and donating comfort packages to local responders, hospital workers, the police, firefighters, and other first responders. The packages might include such things as cakes, snacks, coffee cups, etc. Rabbi Moshe is grateful to those larger corporations, who during these darker times, have proven that they are there to help when needed, and are more than willing to give back to the community that they serve. He is also grateful to the many volunteers, in- cluding his own six children, who help fill up the relief boxes and help drive the supply trucks to their destinations. This past holiday of Passover, the Congregation and the Food Bank also cooked 150 meals that included soup, salad, meats, fish, etc., for people who felt lonely and isolated. Rabbi Moshe was overwhelmed with emotion when many of those same people called him and thanked him for thinking of them. It lifted their spirits to know they weren’t forgotten. It doesn’t matter what race or religion you come from, if you are in need of a relief box, please call. We are all in this together and helping your friends and neighbors brings unity to all.
