What is a bunion? A bunion is a bump on the first metatarsophalangeal joint (MTPJ), the joint where your big toe and foot connect. When bone alignment problems in your foot force your big toe to tilt toward the other toes instead of pointing up, it pushes the MTPJ outward and causes the bump. Bunions usually appear on the big toe, but can also appear on the little toe. These little toe bunions are called tailor’s bunions or bunionettes. They’re caused by bone misalignment, just as big bunions are. What are the signs of a bunion? The bony bump is the tell-tale sign, but you can also expect other symptoms, including soreness, pain, and red skin around the bump. Many bunion sufferers also have restricted movement in their big toe. How do I treat a bunion? At A Step Up Podiatry, LLC, bunion treatment usu- ally starts with a clinical examination and Xrays to determine its severity. Some treatment options include:

• Custom orthotics to redistribute foot pressure • Medication to relieve pain • Cortisone injections for long-term pain relief • Ice application to reduce inflammation and soreness

• Taping, padding, or splinting to correct position and decrease stress • New footwear with a wider toe box • Surgical treatment

Remember how you feel when you count your blessings and express your gratitude this time of year? Why not do it every day?! Consider how your level of appreciation for the good things in your life improves your mood and raises your vibration. Having a high vibration doesn’t help you resist all the negativity around you; it makes you immune to it! How many times have you said, “I am not going to let this negative person bring me down…” You say this because the negativity has no effect on you! Living a life of gratitude and appreciation changes the way you see the world, where progress becomes more important than obstacles. Practicing appreciation also improves your physical and emotional well-being, making you more resilient when life throws its “curve balls” at you. But for many of us, we have to start by changing our personality habits to find that “silver lining” to raise our vibrations. Starting with a clean slate aids all of us in setting our Intention to enrich our own lives, and Dimensions Reiki is ready to help you release your stress, curtail your anxiety, and clear out the energy of past traumas, so that you may focus on the blessing of Appreciation. Check out our personal energy sessions, psychic readings, and diverse classes and workshops designed to guide you in finding the Spiritual YOU!
