FAMILY MATTERS

Resolution Urges Congress to Vote For Kindness By: Nic le Iuzzolino At a time when the 24-hour news cycle is domi- nated by political, social, cultural and racial divi- sion, there is hope that a simple symbol designed by kindergartners in Florida can help calm the tempest and encourage kindness. Assemblyman Ron Dancer recently introduced a resolution (AR254) urging Congress to adopt the Kindness All Around logo as the national symbol of kindness. “Kindness is contagious,” said Dancer (R-Ocean). “People who benefit from acts of kindness are more likely to act graciously toward others. This circle of kindness is embodied in the symbol.” Students in the transitional kindergarten class at Tropical Elementary School on Merritt Island, Florida created the Kindness All Around sym- bol. “It’s always the right time for kindness,” continued Dancer. “Sometimes it feels like our nation is more divided than it is united. Declaring a na- tional symbol of kindness is a small, but not insignificant step toward civility.” The assemblyman introduced the resolution after learning more than 3,000 people from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico signed an online petition urging state legislatures and Congress to de- clare the symbol as the national symbol of kindness.
