Bulletin Board Magazine [Volume 2 - 2025]
What role has the Association played in supporting your business/career?
I think being in the Association helped me to become a better sales rep; participating at association events/committees I was able to get to know my customers and other vendors on a different level. If you are paying attention, these interactions can be more valuable than a general sales call. Participating in Association events and approaching people I didn’t know created opportunities to learn more about other members, what they do, and even learn more about their personal lives. I feel like the Association has “softened” the business relationships I have made and I understand my client’s needs better, making me a better partner for them.
Have you served on any committees and what has been the benefit?
I have served on the board of PWB and Sponsorship Committee.
Serving on a committee is the gateway to becoming involved and being successful in the Association. Since they meet more often and in smaller settings than general Association events it is easier to get to know other members on a one-on-one basis. Once you get to know other members through committee work, they can help introduce you to other members in the larger networking settings. People say, “you get out what you put in”, and that is absolutely the case with SBACNJ. If you show you care and support the organization, the relationships and sales will follow. It is true that people do business with people they know and like. Serving on committees and joining PWB definitely gave me the opportunity to get to know members and for them to get to know me.
