AUTOMATIC STANDBY GENERATORS You have surely seen Ava Prinzo on the sidelines with her pom poms and bow, passionately cheering on vari ous Monroe sports teams. The Varsity Captain routinely leads practices, helps with choreography, and shares her positive energy with the rest of her team. Prinzo was a Homecourt Court nominee in the Fall of 2021 and more recently, a NJSIAA representative in early February of 2022. Prinzo is also an avid watcher of the show Dance Moms, enjoys traveling and going to the beach, dining at restaurants, and playing with her cat, Scout. In addition to taking challenging courses like AP U.S. History and AP European History, she is a member of the National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, and National English Honor Society. She currently serves as the National Art Honor Society’s Historian, taking note of the club’s activities and promoting their work on social media. Prinzo has also been a Principal’s List student for the entirety of her high school career. SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: AVA PRINZO By, Nazli Mohideen

Throughout the years, Prinzo has been given plenty of words of wisdom from her teachers, but she remembers this piece of advice from one of them in partic ular: “...Be active in [the] community as frequently as possible, whether it's aca demically or socially. My involvement in both the classroom and my extracurric ular activities has allowed me countless opportunities and has ultimately shaped me into the person I am today.” In fact, she is a volunteer cheerleading coach, helping young athletes from ages 5-10 learn new competitive routines. The team she coaches qualified for Nationals and won first place at a competition in Orlando, Florida, an accomplishment she takes lots of pride in. Following graduation from Monroe Township High School, Prinzo is now at tending the University of Miami with a major in Advertising and Marketing. She plans on trying out for their club cheerleading team, too. Eventually, Prinzo wants to work in Advertising, specifically at a Fortune 500 Company.

MONMOUTH REGIONAL CHAMBER CELEBRATES TEAM CHALLENGE — AN ETHICS INITIATIVE FOR TOMORROW’S LEADERS

The Monmouth Regional Chamber of Commerce (MRCC), through its Education Foundation, congratulates and celebrates the winners of its re cent Team Challenge Ethics Competition and Essay Contest. Monmouth County Commissioner Director, Tom Arnone, was the chief guest for the award ceremony, and all participating schools received a certif icate of participation from the county commissioner's office. The results included: 1st Place — Marlboro High School; 2nd Place — Colts Neck High School; 3rd Place — Howell High School; Students’ Choice Award — Colts Neck High School. The event saw active participation and a notable presence from the coun ty's education and administration sector. Denise King, President, and Sar ah Rechenbecker, 1st Vice President, of the Monmouth County Education Association (MCEA), attended the event and expressed admiration for the students' presentations. Ross Licitra, Monmouth County Commissioner, along with Kimberly Flanagan, AVP & Community Banking Officer of First Commerce Bank in Freehold; Vincent Scanelli, owner of Colts Neck Agency; and Bill Wood ward, Board Member of the Freehold Sunrise Optimist Club, were the es teemed judges for the event. The MRCC sincerely thanks all the judges for their time and contributions to the success of the event. Adding further incentive and opportunity, two $500 scholarships, courte sy of the Vasa Foundation, were awarded to the top two essays of the Team Challenge Essay Contest. These scholarships were given to seniors who had the chance to write essays on their knowledge regarding business leadership. The essay topics were on the use of social media and its relation to business etiquette, and the ethical dilemma posed by government entities regulating social media platforms. The recipients of the $500 scholarships were Brielle Bravaco from Colts Neck High School and Sayuri Shree from Freehold Bor ough High School, a resident of Marlboro. The MRCC proudly announces the 2023 Team Challenge Ethics Compe tition which marks the 20th year of this annual tradition, which began in 2003. It’s set to take place on December 8, 2023, at Brookdale Community College. About Team Challenge This initiative aims to engage local high school students in team building, creative problem-solving, and ethical decision-making within real-world business contexts. Every year, approximately 100 students team up to dissect, discuss, and develop presentations on contemporary business challenges. Team Chal lenge begins in September with an initial meeting involving the teachers who supervise the extracurricular program. Following this, another day in September is dedicated to an orientation session, including a mock presen tation to provide practice for the students. Over the next two months, the teams get ample time to strategize and design their challenge. The competitive event culminates with presentations of these challenges in front of a panel of judges from the business community, who then select the top three winning schools. In addition to these recognitions, the special Student's Choice Award allows students to vote for their favorite presenta tions.

Behind the Hedges: GETTING TO KNOW THE HISTORY OF MANALAPAN, NEW JERSEY By: Nazli Mohideen

Manalapan Township is located in Monmouth County, New Jersey, and is home to approximately 40,000 people as of last year, according to the United States Census Bureau. In a blog post published by Rob Dekanski on behalf of the Robert Dekanski Team of New Jersey Real Estate Network, he mentioned the area offers public transportation, shares close proximity to Princeton University and Brook dale Community College and prides itself in being commuter friendly. “Life in Manalapan provides everything residents love about living in a small town,” he said. “From its rich history to its beautiful suburban homes, there are many reasons to fall in love with Manalapan…Manalapan is a vi brant small town that puts its residents first. With its strong local economy, excellent schools, and fantastic amenities, Manalapan is a wonderful place to call home.” Though the cost of living is higher when compared against other areas in the state, the opportunity for exploration of different eateries, events and historic sites are abundant, Dekanski said. In fact, he mentioned a well-known historic site is the Monmouth Battle field State Park. At this plot of land, a battle of the Revolutionary War was fought in June of 1778, according to an article published by the American Battlefield Trust. During this battle, George Washington and his troops forced the British to retreat after an encounter that lasted numerous hours, the article said. Now, the park is used for biking, hiking, limited hunting and picnicking by the general public. Park officials caution visitors to leave minimal human impact on the land, so the historic site can be preserved in the best possible condition, as mentioned in the Rules and Regulations section of the Official Site of the State of New Jersey. Working alongside New Jersey in these preservation efforts is Friends of Monmouth Battlefield. This organization was created in 1990 and hosts a variety of events in awareness of the park and the history behind it including operating tours and a gift shop, releasing articles about the site and educat ing audiences in nearby schools, among other initiatives, according to their website. The organization’s mission statement reads in part, “The Friends of Mon mouth Battlefield are dedicated to protecting, preserving and interpreting the military and social history of the Monmouth Campaign of 1778 and the cultural landscapes of both the battlefield and associated sites within a broader geographic area beyond the Park.” Susan Cohen, cofounder of the Manalapan Domestic Violence Team and mayor of Manalapan, said in a campaign statement that she hopes to con tinue to collaborate with local volunteers and address residents’ concerns. Cohen promised “to continue to work hard (and) to focus on the issues that are important to Manalapan’s families” in addition to “continue to work together with our volunteers that help make our town ‘a great place to live.’” wsiworld. WHY YOU SHOULD AVOID DRINKING WATER AFTER YOU EAT FRUIT By, Pam Teel

Even though water keeps you well hydrated, helps in balancing our body heat, and flushes out our body waste, there are a few reasons why it’s not good to drink water after eating fruit. Drink ing water immediately after a meal can slow down digestion and cause other health issues. Drinking water after fruits is not considered safe because fruit is juicy and it is already a high source of water content. According to Shweta Mahadik, clinical nutritionist, Fortis Hospital Kalyan, Mumbai, there are five reasons to stay away from drinking water after you eat fruit. 1. It can cause stomach cramps - Fruit con tain a lot of sugar and yeast, and drinking water right after eating them dilutes your stomach ac ids. This creates an environment in which yeast can thrive, resulting in the production of carbon dioxide and alcohol, which causes gas to build up in the stomach. 2. It can affect the body’s pH level - Con

sulting in acidity. This is why some people feel queasy after eating fruit. It is suggested that you don’t drink water for at least an hour after eating fruit. 4. It helps in dilution of the gastric juices - You should drink water one hour after eating fruit. This is due to the fact that drinking water immediately after eating dilutes the gastric juice and digestive enzymes required for digestion. Dilution of gastric juice reduces the secretion of digestive enzymes, which can cause heartburn and acidity. 5. It increases blood sugar levels - Drinking water after eating fruit slows digestion, leaving a lot of undigested food in the system. This is converted to fat and causes an increase in insu lin, which can raise blood sugar levels, and lead to diabetes and obesity. People might also experience loose bowels when drinking water after consuming fruit. Fruit
