Your Phone Could Soon Be Your NJ Driver’s License Under Dancer Bill Assemblyman Ron Dancer recently introduced a bill requiring the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission to create and issue electronic driver’s licenses and identification cards to individuals who voluntarily request one.

The bill (A5433) follows up on recommendations from the MVC’s 2016 Mobile Driver’s License Feasibility Study that found the technology exists to create a digital license, and nearly 70 percent of New Jerseyans would be willing to pay for an official ID they could access on their smartphones.

“Convenience is a driving factor for many motorists who want to access their driver’s license in their digital wallet. Residents are now able to keep proof of car insurance, health insurance ID cards, airplane boarding passes and so much more in their cell phones. It’s time to make driver’s licenses available in a similar smartphone format,” said Dancer (R-Ocean). More than a dozen states, including Delaware, Virginia, and Florida, have pilot programs or are working to offer electronic driver’s licenses. The demand has grown globally as well, with Canadian provinces, Britain, and India embracing the mobile phone ID. “Mobile driver’s licenses can be a secure and suitable alternative to traditional IDs for modern motorists,” said Dancer. “Most likely, we have at one time or another, forgot our wallet and drove without a driver’s license, but seldom today do we ever leave the house without our smartphone. Additionally, this innovation could cut down on in-person agency visits, something that will appeal to a great many New Jersey drivers.” The MVC annually conducts about 1.8 million driver’s license and ID card transactions each year. Under the bill, a driver with a digital license or ID card could update a personal motor vehicle record electronically and the changes would override the information on a hard-copy license or ID. The bill has been referred to Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee.

Q: LEADERS IN LEAST INVASIVE PAIN & SPINE PROCEDURES How can Platelet Rich Plasma Treatment Help Shoulder and Knee Pain?

A:

Platelet Rich Plasma erapy also referred to as PRP erapy, is a progressive non-surgical treatment to treat a variety of conditions including arthritis, ten- don injuries, and ligament injuries. PRP is part of a group of state-of-the-art treatments collectively referred to as Regenerative Medicine. PRP treats an injured area naturally using your body’s own growth factors to accelerate healing. It has been shown to be safe and e ec- tive for numerous joint and so tissue injuries. It has been extensively researched in numerous medical journals and publications all over the world. Some of the many uses of Platelet Rich Plasma include osteoarthritis (degenera- tive arthritis) of the spine, knee, shoulder, hip, hands, and feet, as well as menis- cus tears, plantar fasciitis, and rotator cu tears. e procedure is simple and is performed in the o ce. e PRP process begins when a small amount of the patient’s blood is removed from the arm and placed into a special container. e blood is then placed into a device called a centri- fuge which spins the blood to help the separate the portion of the blood which becomes concentrated with platelets, thereby giving the procedure its name. ese platelets are important because they release growth factors to recruit stem cells and to assist in healing an injured area naturally. Once the PRP is isolated, it is injected to the injured area under the guidance of an ultrasound machine to help accelerate healing and reduce pain.

is healing works on the simple principle that your body is perfectly capable of healing itself. Your blood contains all the essential components that the body produces to repair tissue damage. Each time you have an injury, the platelets in your blood along with growth factors, stem cells, cytokines, and other elements create a sca olding on the site. e damaged tissues use this framework to regenerate and repair. e entire process takes approximately one hour, and pa- tients are sent home the same day. Patients on average report more than 50% improvement in 6 weeks and up to 100% improvement in 12 weeks. is may eliminate the need for more aggressive and expensive treatment options such as long-term medication or surgery. In a recent study, researchers at Hospital for Special Surgery gave patients with early osteoarthritis an injection of PRP and then monitored them for one year. A er one year of the PRP injection, physicians evaluated the knee cartilage with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). While previous studies have shown that patients with osteoarthritis can lose roughly ve percent of knee cartilage per year, the Hospital for Special Surgery investigators found that a large majority of patients in their study had no further cartilage loss. At minimum PRP also prevented further knee deterioration.

Starting at Despite the dramatic drop in the number of people smoking cigarettes, smoking remains a leading preventable cause of cancer and cancer death in the United States. In addition to raising the risk of lung cancer, it increases the risk of throat, stomach, bladder, and many other cancer types, as well as heart disease, stroke, and other serious illnesses. But quitting cigarette smoking is hard. Each year, fewer than 10% of smokers who try to quit succeed. So public health experts have focused much of their efforts on ensuring that people never start smoking in the first place. In previous studies, researchers had found that almost 90% of adult daily cigarette smokers first tried smoking before the age of 18. As a result, teenagers have been the primary target for smoking prevention efforts, explained Dr. Barrington-Trimis. “But what we’ve seen with some of our [recent] work in young adults is a substantive amount of cigarette smoking initiation” in that age group, she said. To examine nationwide trends in the age that people begin smoking, Dr. Barrington-Trimis and her colleagues analyzed almost 20 years of data from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health. The yearly survey captures information on tobacco, alcohol, and other drug use from a representative cross-section of the US population aged 12 years or older. The team focused on data collected between 2002 and 2019 frommore than 71,000 participants who were aged 22 or 23 in the year when they answered the survey. The proportion of people aged 22 to 23 years who had ever smoked all or part of a cigarette decreased from 75% to 51% over the study period, and the proportion of those who had ever engaged in daily smoking for a period of at least 30 days decreased from 41% to 20%. Also, the age at smoking initiation was moving up over that time period, they found. Starting at Smoking Initiation Shifting from Teens to Young Adults More young adults than teens are trying smoking for the first time or becoming regular smokers, according to a new study. The past few decades have seen a steep drop in the number of adolescents in the United States who smoke cigarettes. But according to a new study, the average age at which people first try cigarettes or start to smoke regularly has risen. Tobacco control efforts over the last several decades have produced some resounding successes. Overall, less than 14% of adults in the United States currently smoke cigarettes, compared to almost 43% in 1965. And for adolescents, the drop has been even more substantial. For example, among U.S. high school seniors, daily cigarette smoking fell from its mid- 1990s peak of 33.5% to just 2.4% in 2019. But over the past two decades, the study found, there has been a change in cigarette smoking behavior: the age at which people tend to start smoking has drifted upwards from the mid-teens to the later teens and even into young adulthood. The new results were published October 6 in JAMA Network Open. “For a long time, people have talked about how, if we can just get kids past the age of 18 without smoking cigarettes, they’re home free,” said Jessica Barrington-Trimis, Ph.D., of the University of Southern California, who led the new study. “I think that that’s a flawed way of looking at things today.”

HELPING YOUR CHILD DEAL WITH LOSS By Mia Inqui

It's hard to explain to your kids when a relative or pet dies. It's harder to find the words if you're grieving yourself. But here are some tips to help you through this tough time. Your kids may ask a lot of questions and it's okay that you don't have all the answers. Try to use clear and simple terms. Avoid using words like “went away" or

"went to sleep" or even that your family "lost" the person. Young kids think very literally; it may make them afraid to go to sleep or scared when someone goes away. Be patient and open. Allow your child to work through his or her grief as much as possible. Reassure your child that he or she did nothing wrong or anything to cause the death. Keeping open lines of communication may help prevent grief from being kept inside. Be sure to make other important adults in your child's life aware of the death. Teachers, coaches and religious figures can offer additional support. It may help your child if you plan something special to remember the person or pet who died. You can try to:

This may be a painful time for your family. Remember that there's no right or wrong way to grieve. There is no amount of time that is right or wrong for the grieving process, but hopefully the more time passes, the less sad you will feel. Remembering the person and the good memories you have will help you and your family feel better.

KIDS Allentown Robotics Comes to the Middle School By Pam Teel

This past year, Allentown High School student, Melissa Domen, who has a strong interest in robotics and is part of the high school team, helped to establish a competitive Lego robotics team at the Stone Bridge Middle School.

Melissa is currently a junior at Allentown High School. She has been the business team leader of the high school Redbird Robotics team since her sophomore year. She has always been interested in encouraging oth- er girls involved in a field that is predominantly populated with boys. She was lucky enough to have coached a rookie FIRST Lego League (FLL) team called the RoboGirls. The RoboGirls consists of eight mid- dle school Girl Scouts from Allentown and Robbinsville. This was also part of her Girl Scout Gold Award project. With her experience, she wanted to expand middle school robotics teams, so she went to her high school advisor, Mr. Tackett, and the Superintendent Mr. Guterl with her idea. They encouraged her to pursue this within their school district, so she ap- plied for a grant to cover the costs of the supplies. In February 2020, Melissa was awarded a grant by the Upper Freehold Regional Education Foundation for $2,300.00 to start True North Robotics. Since middle school level robotics competitions have a limit of 10 team members per team, True North Robotics split into two smaller competition teams. One competition team is called True North Robotics Impact and has eight students (Aaryan Desai, Ioanna Varouhakis, Vishek Desai, Luke Greenbaum, Taylor Lalla, Elena Mathew, Theo Renzulli, Jeremy George) , and the other competition team is called True North Robotics Innovation and has six students (Sean Gavin, Mia Laudien, Remy Fortsch, Aarav Patnaik, Benjamin Utset, Sienna Jones). Each of the smaller group team names are named after the Core Values of FIRST: Discovery, Innovation, Impact, Inclusion, Teamwork, Fun, Coopertition, and Gracious Professionalism The name of the middle school team, True North Robotics, unites Stone Bridge Middle School’s motto of “Finding your True North” with the students’ passion for robotics. With the guidance of high school students on Redbird Robotics, 14 middle school students have learned programming, building, and teamwork skills while having a successful rookie season this year so far. On Feb. 13th, True North Robotics did an outstanding job at the virtual Qualifying Event competition and headed to the Southern NJ District Champi- onship competition this past April. The team received the Robot Design Award, Breakthrough Award, and was second place for the Rising Star Award. At the Qualifying Event, the students placed fifth and sixth in the robot challenge game. Participating teams were judged on four different components during the competition including the Robot Game, a Robot Design Presentation, an Inno- vation Project Presentation, and a Core Values activity. For the Robot Game and Robot Design, the team built and programmed two different robots made out of Legos to complete a series of obstacles in 2.5 minutes. For the Innovation Project, True North Robotics invented and created prototypes of special swimming gear to help prevent swimmer’s ear and a mobile gym to encourage everyone to be more active. What makes this team unique compared to other middle school robotics teams is that this team is 100% student run. Shane Conlin, Amelia Tricker, and Liam Granaghan are current high school students on Redbird Robotics and have been helping the True North Robotics team this season. Mr. Guterl, Mrs. Folino and Mr. Myslinski have also been a great support for the team since its start. It has certainly been a team effort to get this team to run successfully. The nonprofit organization FIRST stands for, ‘For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology.’ FIRST runs many types of robotics competi- tions for different grade levels from Pre-K through 12th grade. Both True North Robotics and Redbird Robotics are FIRST robotics competition teams. True North Robotics’s competition level is called FIRST Lego League, and Redbird Robotics’s competition level is called FIRST Robotics Competition. It has been quite an experience for Melissa to start up a new competitive robotics team during a pandemic. The season kicked off in the summer of 2020 with online meetings. Students learned several skills like coding a robot, building robots, robotics competitions, the culture of the FIRST organization, and high school robotics. The end of the summer was also spent meeting in-person to build robots and obstacles made out of Legos. Safety measures, such as social distancing, and sanitizing, were practiced at every single meeting. Both online and in-person meetings were held four days a week throughout the school year. Usually the competition season for middle school robotics starts in August and ends in December. But with it being a new team in a pandemic, this year’s season started in June and continued until some time in April. Soon, Melissa and the team will start planning for next year’s season. Melissa is also an active member of The Varsity Girls Golf Team, high school newspaper editor, high school yearbook club, Business Academy, Peer Lead- ers, Jazz Band, Leo Club, Redbirds Got Talent, Girl Scouts, FIRST National Advocacy Conference, National Honors Society, Math National Honors Society, Science Honors Society, English Honors Society, Spanish Honors Society, and the History Honors Society. She also enjoys tutoring several students in all levels of math. She has been taking several AP classes last year and this year. Congratulations Melissa for all of your accomplishments. We have no doubt that you will have a future full of them! True North Robotics

Options for listing a home quickly: Sell As-Is

1. Include “as-is” in your listing: Selling your home as-is means that you aren’t going to be spend- ing time making any repairs — what the buyer sees is what the buyer gets. Note that a buyer may still request an inspection, but your agent can set the expectation that no major repairs will be made. Of course, when you sell a house as-is, you’ll likely have to accept a lower sale price than you would if you had completed some updates and maintenance before listing. 2. Inspect and disclose everything: Another option for selling as-is is to complete a pre-inspection and disclose everything found on the inspection report. Again, you’ll likely have to lower your price, but your agent can position your home as a great opportunity for investors, flippers, or people looking for a fixer-upper opportunity.

Had a great client, lovely home or property involved, looking to close real soon-ONLY to have the deal fall thru due to a Septic System issue? WELL YOU SHOULDN’T HAVE IF YOU CALLED US! ’ In this housing market no-one can afford to lose a sale . We @ A-NORTON SEPTIC CONTRACTING are here to help. If you are a listing agent-you know that in order to sell a home the experts recommend to Fix It! Which means: Anything that is not operating, including windows, leaky roofs or appliances should be repaired or replaced. It is cheaper to fix it than to deduct from the sales price. That includes the Septic System (which is the most expensive, most utilized appliance/utility in the home) We can guide you accordingly if you are under contact or better yet consult with us if your client is listing a home with you to have us a do an on-site evaluation of the current Septic System. This simple effort can go a long way to make a deal instead of break one. By knowing the status of the Septic System before you are under contract-that repair may be able to be made with minimal cost & time as opposed to having a war with your client, the listing or selling agent & their client, both parties’ lawyers, the mortgage company & the local Health Department, then postponing the closing or losing that sale. Get it sold! Consult with us!!! KEEP IN MIND THE CURRENT NJDEP CODES: N.J.A.C. 7:9A STANDARDS FOR INDIVIDUAL SUBSURFACE SEWAGE DISPOSAL SYSTEMS A sewage ejector pump that is present in the home for a basement bathroom whether a half bath or full bath (shower and/or tub present) and/or wet bar/kitchenette This also is required for a garbage grinder. Per N.J.A.C 7:9A-8.2 Septic Tanks

Require an increase in septic tank capacity by 50% above the minimum standards. Example: A four (4) bedroom dwelling will need a minimum 1500 gallon in tank volume. Per N.J.A.C. 7:9A-10.2 Disposal Field Sizing Requirements Some Health Departments will also require a 50% larger disposal field (Absorption Area) as well.

Septic systems are designed by water flow & calculations are made per bedroom/per gallons per day (gpd) EXAMPLE: If a current home’s septic system is only sized for a four (4) bedroom dwelling (650 gpd) This home cannot be misrepresented as a five (5) bedroom home for a real estate transaction. It is best to contact your local septic company, and your local regulatory agency (health department) for all the up to date septic codes in your town for a smooth real estate transaction

East Windsor Township, for the 21st year, has earned this national designation meet- ing the four standards set by the Arbor Day Foundation: having a tree board or de- partment, a tree-care ordinance, a comprehensive forestry program, and an Arbor Day observance. The Tree City Growth Award recognizes Tree City USA municipalities that achieve major milestones and annual activities that build upon their Tree City USA des- ignation and combine to build sustainable community forestry programs over the long term. The program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service. Mayor Janice S. Mironov and Council Members accept Tree City USA designation and Growth Award for East Windsor Township's commitment to a healthy community environment and long term sustainable future built around community forestry pro- grams.

March 31, 2021 Marked The United States’ First Official Transgender Day Statement from Secretary Haaland on International Transgender Day of Visibility “There is nothing more powerful in this world than the act of living openly, authentically, and safely. On this Trans Day of Visibility, we recognize the hard-fought victories won by and for the transgender community, honor the transgender loved ones we’ve lost along the way, and recommit to the struggle for full equality. Transgender people continue to face an unacceptable epidemic of violence and harmful discrimination in access to health care, employment, and housing. Trans people are our neighbors, our family, our friends, and our colleagues, and they deserve to live with dignity and to be treated fairly in every part of life. Today, and every day, we stand in solidarity with the transgender community as we both celebrate our progress and continue our long march toward liberation, peace, and equality.”

- Deb Haaland, Secretary of the Interior

Paint Color Trends 2021 By, Surabhi Ashok That grey in your living room needs a touch-up. That shade of pink in your bedroom has only been getting duller as the time spent in quarantine passes. Only a couple months into 2021, it is clear as to what paint colors people are gravitating to as they look to reinvent their home. One of the most persistent paint color trends throughout the years is blue. Ranging from a deep ocean hue to a pastel hue to clear hue like the sky, blue cre- ates a soothing atmosphere, something that is much needed after the stressful impact of the coronavirus pandemic. According to Karina Lameraner, Modsy’s creative stylist, “We’ll also continue to see blue being used as an ‘subtle accent’ in more neutral spaces, adding a slight touch of color to those safer spaces.” Earthy tones have also become a popular paint color. This stems from being inside for most of the day and wanting the feeling of spending time outdoors and in nature. Calm colors such as golds, vibrant greens, dark browns, and tints of orange fill the room with warmth and solace. I imagine it feels like laying in the grass and looking up at the looming trees that just slightly cover the cloudless sky. As a mix of the two above with undertones of gray, the brand Minwax released Vintage Blue. The color, when stained on wood furniture, builds up a nostal- gic but also awakened mood. It can be paired with white, amber, charcoal, or other shades of blue like denim or navy. Benjamin Moore’s color of the year is similar as well, an aegean teal that has a “casual elegance”. According to Kiel Wullner, the vice president of designs in Vesta, brown is “making a comeback”. Soft browns and beige, along with rich browns that are dark with texture, are being used as wall colors to make the space in need of a paint feel more like home. And of course, one of the biggest trends is neutral paint, which creates a simple and clean environment to live in. People layer whites with black accents and add pops of bold colors to form a nice contrast. Neutral paint colors make it easy for frequent renovations and changes. Similarly, a pastel arrangement is prime for a peaceful and optimistic interior design, something that can be a haven from times of turmoil. Elizabeth Cooper recommends soft colors “like oyster, chalk, cream, oatmeal, soft sky blues, and celadon greens” for 2021. Paint color trends often reflect the emotions and character of the overall consumer. Ranging from blues to greens and neutrals to pastels, people have a wide variety of looks to choose from as they continue to reinvent their homes this 2021. Do You Think About Air Quality? By, Lauren Kowlacki

Today’s the day to start thinking about air quality. What can you do? Pay attention to the Air Quality Index. The AQI is a tool that tells you when high levels of air pollution are predicted and tells you how air pollution affects your health. If you have COPD, ASTHMA, or HEART DISEASE, using this is especially important. Finding the AQI is easy. It is on the Web, on many local TV weather forecasts, or you can sign up for notifications at www.enviroflash.info and www.airnow.gov. The AQI is easy to use. If the AQI predicts a “Code Orange” (unhealthy for sensitive groups) day, don’t cancel your plans—use the AQI to help you plan a better time or place for them. The AQI tells you about five major air pollutants in the U.S. that are regulated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, including ozone and particle pollution. Ozone and particle pollution may harm the health of hundreds of thousands of Americans each year. Ozone and Particle Pollution Color Chart for Healthy Air Quality Using these notifications lets you know when to expect high levels of air pollution and how to protect yourself. Let’s say that the ozone level where you live is predicted to be Code Orange tomorrow. If you’re a runner—even if you’re healthy—that air quality could hurt, you. Using the AQI, you can plan your run for when ozone levels will be lower, shorten your run or walk instead, or run on a treadmill indoors.

Particle pollution has been linked to heart attacks and strokes, and even death in people with heart disease. On a day when particle pollution will be at Code Orange, do something less intense. Walk instead of running or weed your garden instead of doing heavier work. Using the AQI daily. No matter where you go, you can always access the AQI.
