Grant vest Financial Group By Pam Teel
As financial professionals and fiduciaries, the Wealth Management Team at Grantvest Financial Group are committed to helping people create solutions in all aspects of their lives, from financial planning to investment management. Lo cated in Matawan, NJ, Grantvest Financial Group was founded by Anthony Caputo, a Millstone Township resident, and co-owner Gregory Guenther, of Wall, NJ. Through their professional knowledge, personal integrity, and personalized services, the goal of Anthony and his team is to become your most trusted advisory group; with services that include, retirement planning, insurance planning strategies, investment, college planning resources, Social Security analysis, pension calculations, budgeting, and cash flow strategies. Anthony was born and raised in Staten Island. Anthony lost his dad to cancer at just 48 years old. Anthony was nine teen and in college at the time. His dad was uninsured, leaving his mother with two sons and a mortgage to pay off, and no IRA / 401K / or retirement plan. His mother, who worked as a special education para at Anthony’s high school, could not fully support her family on her salary.
An thony Caputo, ChFEBC
Anthony’s life changed in the blink of an eye. His father’s dying wish was for him to finish college. In order for Anthony to stay in school, he had to find a part time job so he could help with college expenses. When his friends were out having fun, Anthony was busy working to help pay for his schooling or studying finance. What weighed on Anthony’s mind more than anything was how his mother would turn to him and ask him for financial guidance and advice. At nineteen, what did he know? He felt helpless. He learned the hard way what it means to not have a financial plan set in place. He set out with a goal of trying to learn and understand everything he could about finance, so he could be better prepared in the future when he had his own family. With a lot of hard work, Anthony graduated with a B.A. degree fromHofstra University. He had helped to fulfill his father’s last wishes, and he was ready to start his new career. Because of his past experience, the passion that he had to help others be prepared for life’s lessons always stayed with Anthony. But he had to put that thought on hold for a while. It was about the same time that 9/11 happened, and during that period, it was tough finding a job in finance. During his finance hiatus, Anthony worked on the television show The Bachelor, for season five. He was the associate producer on the New York based season featuring then Bachelor, Charlie O'Connell. Anthony got back into finance in 2005 and began his career in the financial services industry as a Wealth Advisor for the Premiere Banking and Invest ments division of Bank of America Investments/Merrill Lynch. In 2009, he and partner, Greg Guenther, started their own independent Planning Practice to better serve the needs of his clients. With six professional licenses/designations, Anthony is able to offer personalized investment strategies aimed at servicing, managing, and preserving the wealth of you and your family. Later on, because of Anthony’s business acumen, he was approached by two longtime friends about becoming a strategic partner in a manufacturing start-up. Anthony would help this company launch from prototype making in the garage, to the big stage of ABC’s hit show, Shark Tank, in less than 3 years. Anthony and then partners would be featured on Season 5 where they would strike a deal with their favorite Shark, Lori Greiner. their product, The Paint Brush Cover, can still be found in Home Depot’s Nationwide, amongst many other hardware stores throughout the U.S. They were a big success selling millions of Paint Brush Covers in just a few short years. In 2016, Anthony sold out of his part of the manufacturing business to continue building his Financial Planning practice. Anthony has always had a passion to help others and to be a mentor, both inside and outside of work. He and his wife Julia have been blessed with four children. Anthony is a man of values and tradition, and always makes time for his family. He is a coach for the Millstone Little League, co-head coach for the towns’ 10u tackle football team, along with his brother in law and fellow Millstoner, James Cortopassi. Anthony also sits on the Board of both leagues in town. Anthony was always involved in sports growing up, with his dad right by his side coaching him and teaching him not just how to play the sport, but how to be a team player. He also taught him how to work hard for what you want, and how to strive to be a leader. Looking back, Anthony realized that all the coaching from his dad was not just about how to play the game, but rather how to get by in life. Anthony’s goals, as coach of his children’s sports teams, is to instill in tomorrow’s leaders all the valuable lessons he carries with him today. By working closely with you, Anthony’s team, which consists of co-owner Gregory Guenther, Leo Wong, and Joseph Cammayo, get to know and under stand your wants and needs and help you identify the personal finance strategies that may improve your lifestyle, both present, and in the future. The team consists of four fiduciary Financial Planners/ in-house institutional bond traders/ 3 operations staff, and one in-house compliance officer-An thony’s younger brother, Michael. With trust and integrity, and decades of experience in the financial service industry, the team is there to help you to reach your goals. For more information go to: www. Clara Barton: A Memorial Day Story By, Neely Tucker This is a guest post by Michelle Krowl, a historian in the Manuscript Division. Re: LOC.gov
Civil War nurse Clara Barton traveled to Falmouth, Virginia in December 1862, anticipating another bloody battle and a crush of wounded men needing medical assistance. Shortly before the December 13th Battle Of Fredericksburg, Barton gazed out over the tents and campfires of the Union troops in the Army of the Potomac. She imagined she “could almost hear the slow flap of the grim messenger’s wings, as one by one, he sought and selected his victims for the morning sacrifice.” “Oh! sleep and visit in dreams once more, the loved ones nestling at home,” she silently willed the soldiers. “They may yet live to dream of you, cold lifeless and bloody.” Barton’s fears proved accurate for the Union, which in defeat suffered more than 12,000 casualties. Among the deceased was Lieutenant Edger Marshall Newcomb of the 19th Massachusetts Infantry. Barton recorded Newcomb’s (which she also spelled “Newcome”) death on December 20 in a pocket diary she kept while tending the wounded at a Union hospital established at Lacy House in Fal mouth. According to comrades, Newcomb had been shot in both legs while carrying the national flag during a charge on December 13. Unlike many of his comrades, who died alone on the battlefield, or surrounded by strangers in a field hospital, Barton noted that Newcomb saw familiar faces in his final days. Edward Fitzgerald, a comrade

in the 19th Massachusetts, tended to the 22-year-old lieutenant, and Newcomb’s brother, 17-year-old Charles, had arrived for a visit before the battle and “remained to care for him until his death.” By Civil War standards, Newcomb’s passing counted as a “Good Death” “in Victorian terms, with the deceased attended by friends and family, and able to express parting words. Newcomb was buried at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
His memory, however, lived on long after the Civil War. In 1883, Dr. A. B. Weymouth published a memorial sketch of Lieutenant Newcomb’s life and wartime letters. The book confirmed Barton’s presence at Newcomb’s deathbed, standing in for his mother as his mind wandered at the end.
Years later, Charles revisited the scene of his brother’s death at Lacy House. “It was an affecting scene to see him kneeling over his brother’s blood, which still remains on the floor,” remembered the new owner’s son, “and can never be erased.” Unlike many of his comrades, who died alone on the battlefield, or

Q: LEADERS IN LEAST INVASIVE PAIN & SPINE PROCEDURES How can Platelet Rich Plasma Treatment Help Shoulder and Knee Pain?
A:
Platelet Rich Plasma erapy also referred to as PRP erapy, is a progressive non-surgical treatment to treat a variety of conditions including arthritis, ten don injuries, and ligament injuries. PRP is part of a group of state-of-the-art treatments collectively referred to as Regenerative Medicine. PRP treats an injured area naturally using your body’s own growth factors to accelerate healing. It has been shown to be safe and e ec tive for numerous joint and so tissue injuries. It has been extensively researched in numerous medical journals and publications all over the world. Some of the many uses of Platelet Rich Plasma include osteoarthritis (degenera tive arthritis) of the spine, knee, shoulder, hip, hands, and feet, as well as menis cus tears, plantar fasciitis, and rotator cu tears. e procedure is simple and is performed in the o ce. e PRP process begins when a small amount of the patient’s blood is removed from the arm and placed into a special container. e blood is then placed into a device called a centri fuge which spins the blood to help the separate the portion of the blood which becomes concentrated with platelets, thereby giving the procedure its name. ese platelets are important because they release growth factors to recruit stem cells and to assist in healing an injured area naturally. Once the PRP is isolated, it is injected to the injured area under the guidance of an ultrasound machine to help accelerate healing and reduce pain.
is healing works on the simple principle that your body is perfectly capable of healing itself. Your blood contains all the essential components that the body produces to repair tissue damage. Each time you have an injury, the platelets in your blood along with growth factors, stem cells, cytokines, and other elements create a sca olding on the site. e damaged tissues use this framework to regenerate and repair. e entire process takes approximately one hour, and pa tients are sent home the same day. Patients on average report more than 50% improvement in 6 weeks and up to 100% improvement in 12 weeks. is may eliminate the need for more aggressive and expensive treatment options such as long-term medication or surgery. In a recent study, researchers at Hospital for Special Surgery gave patients with early osteoarthritis an injection of PRP and then monitored them for one year. A er one year of the PRP injection, physicians evaluated the knee cartilage with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). While previous studies have shown that patients with osteoarthritis can lose roughly ve percent of knee cartilage per year, the Hospital for Special Surgery investigators found that a large majority of patients in their study had no further cartilage loss. At minimum PRP also prevented further knee deterioration.

The Millstone Times would like to pay tribute to Thomas Cosentino (Former Executive Director of t e Garden State Wine Growers Association, Friend, and Advertiser)
Thomas Consentino did a lot for promoting the burgeoning wine growers of New Jersey. He was instrumental in putting New Jersey on the map as far as bringing regional and national attention to the wine growing industry here in our state. His advocacy for NJ wineries brought attention and more growth to the state. He knew the importance and value of New Jersey’s soil and climate, when it came to growing grapes, and he advocated not only for the larger vineyards, but the smaller ones as well. His background as a public relations professional made him the perfect candidate to stand up and fight for something that he was truly passionate about. He was instrumental in passage of direct shipping legislation that supported New Jersey’s budding wineries and for solidifying the Garden State Wine Growers Association into the strong force it is today. According to Jack Tomasello from Tomasello Wineries, “Tom loved to bring people together. He had the patience and the personality to get things done.” Scott Donnini, owner of Auburn Road Vineyards in Woodstown, NJ, close friend, and present chairperson for the Garden State Wine Growers Association added, “Tom was the one who put New Jersey on the map as far as the wine industry goes. He would attend conventions all over the U.S. representing NJ wine growers, bringing attention to his state. He loved people and was one of the nicest guys you would ever know. He was an amazing marketer and was good at his job because he was genuinely proud of the wineries and the people behind them. Whether lecturing at conventions or mentoring, he was well loved and respected in the industry. I remember him as always being upbeat and supportive. He never complained about things. Even with the health issues he was going through, he always tried to remain positive.” Tom was an advertiser for many years with The Millstone Times and built a mutual relationship with the owner, Cami Gunther, who remembers him fondly as selfless, kind, and very professional, to the point of calling her from the hospital three days before he passed to apologize for not returning an email sooner. “This was the kind of man he was,” stated Scott Donnini. “Everybody loved him. He died too young. He was fifty-nine years old. We didn’t expect to lose him. We all miss him a lot.” Our heartfelt condolences to the Consentino family for your loss. Tom’s legacy and his advocacy for the wine growers of New Jersey will live on. Keep Tom’s vision for New Jersey Wine growers alive by visiting one of your local wineries and supporting them. Garden State Wine growers Association is a non- profit organization aimed at supporting and promoting the NJ Wine industry. Visit www.newjerseywines.com for information on events and more.

NJ Stars— Gaten Matarazzo By, Surabhi Ashok Most of you may know Gaten Matarazzo through his character Dustin Henderson in the popular Netflix TV series “Stranger Things”. However, did you know that the 19-year-old actor grew up in our very own New Jersey, in Little Egg Harbor Township itself? Gaten Matarazzo began his career in acting very young, playing Benjamin in the Broadway musical “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert'' in 2011 and the character Gavroche/Petit Gervais in the Broadway musical “Les Misérables in 2014. He has portrayed one of the main characters Dustin Henderson in the television show “Stranger Things” since 2016, returning for each season. The fourth season is scheduled to come out in two sets, the first part releasing worldwide on May 27, 2022 and the second on July 1. This science fiction series details a group of friends discovering supernatural forces and unraveling different government mysteries after a young boy suddenly disappears in a small town in 1980s Indiana. Starring alongside Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Caleb McLaughlin, and more, Gaten Matarazzo is part of a show that has received critical acclaim from being nominated for many Primetime Emmy Awards to getting four Golden Globe Awards. He himself won a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series and a Shorty Award for Best Actor. In addition, Matarazzo is the host of his very own Netflix series called “Prank Encounters”, in which ordinary people are unknowingly recorded and subjected to various scares orchestrated by the actor himself. Aside from “Prank Encounters”, Matarazzo has also been in “The Angry Birds Movie”, “Zach’s Lie”, “Hump”, “The Finn”, various commercials, and even a Katy Perry and Green Day music video. Even with all this time on screen, Matarazzo still graduated from Pinelands Regional High School in Tuckerton, New Jersey. His presence in the state ranges from having taken a summer job at a local eatery during the pandemic and performing with his rock band, Work in Progress, at various venues like The Stony Pony in Asbury Park. That’s right, he can sing too! More towards his personal life, Gaten Matarazzo has been open about being born with cleidocranial dysplasia or CCD. The condition mostly results in poorly developed collarbones, abnormal teeth, and a shortened height. Because of his CCD, Matarazzo was rejected from some acting jobs but eventually overcame that obstacle. Matarazzo’s character on “Stranger Things” was even modified to have the condition as well. Because of his own experience with CCD, Matarazzo fundraises for the organization CCD Smiles in order to help cover costs of oral surgeries. He’s done this by starting his own line of shirts and donating the proceeds he gets to the organization. Gaten Matarazzo is a true NJ star, living in Little Egg Harbor Township with his parents, sister, and brother when he isn’t filming his hit show “Stranger Things”. All About Capers By: Nazli Mohideen Typically found in the Mediterranean and parts of Asia, capers are small, green flower buds. They grow from the capparis spinosa, otherwise known as the caper bush. Before they have a chance to ripen, the capers are plucked from the bushes and then placed in a brine to bring out more flavor. It is said that the smaller the caper is, the better, since as they grow in size, they become more acidic in flavor. The capers range from the nonpareils variety to surfines, capucines, capotes, fines, and finally, grusas. The non pareils kind is usually the best-tasting.
Capers are sold in jars similar to pickles and olives. Before cooking with them, the capers are drained from its brine and dried. Recipes calling for capers include potato salad, pasta, different sauces, and salmon. They’re a staple in Greek and Italian dishes. Capers also have a bright, but incredibly salty taste. It is recommended to drain and rinse the capers thoroughly before use. Otherwise, there is no need to additionally salt your dish. The small buds have great nutritional benefits. Not only are they low in cholesterol, but capers are also a source of protein and fiber, various vitamins, calcium, iron, and magnesium.

What is Misophonia? By: Nazli Mohideen Misophonia is a condition in which someone shows strong reactions to certain sounds. About 15-20% of reported Americans have misophonia and scientists predict this percentage is higher in actuality. Even though misophonia is relatively common, research conducted on the disorder remains limited, and many medical professionals aren’t aware of the disorder to this day. Misophonia triggers can either be visual or oral. According to Healthline, slurping, swallowing, birds chirping, the clicking of a pen, ticking of a clock, and shuffling of papers are some of the most common triggers. Other triggers in clude loud chewing and breathing, snoring, and nails on a chalkboard. The cause of misophonia is not clear, making the diagnosis process all the more difficult. Yet, experts say symptoms typically start at around the age of 12. These symptoms include but aren't limited to increased blood pressure and heart rate along with strong feelings of disgust, irritation, anxiety, and panic in response to everyday sounds. Essentially, misophonia causes a fight or flight response in individuals. As a result, someone may grow increasingly angry and full of rage, while others choose to remove themselves from the environment altogether. Having quiet work areas has proven to be beneficial for those struggling with misophonia. At times when getting rid of a triggering noise is not possible, using noise-canceling headphones or listening to music helps.
Medication isn’t typically given to treat misophonia since the disorder itself is still unknown to many. Therapy, however, is highly recommended. There have also been positive results seen in patients who pair something they love to a sound they find triggering. For example, if someone is easily triggered by pen clicking, they might listen to music when working in a classroom where more students tend to click their pens constantly. With growing awareness of the disorder, researchers hope to introduce more treatment options in the future. Q: Aren’t All Running Shoes the Same? A: No, proper footwear provides stability, support and overall foot and back health. When we run, our bodies absorb tremendous impact. The shock from this im pact is felt in the feet and travels up our spine. This can cause stress and strain on the joints which can lead to both back and feet pain and injury over time. There is no better protection for your feet than shoes.
Dr. Sanjay Gandhi, DPM
Special running footwear is constructed for the purpose of protection with a thicker heel to ab sorb impact and a heel-to-toe drop to match the natural gait cycle of running. Running shoes are intended to complement the natural feel of your foot. Proper shoes should feel like an extension of your feet with the added protection that helps control the high-impact forces and ensures proper running form, which reduces joint strain. Proper running shoes are only part of the solution: strengthening and conditioning our muscles in our legs and core-region is also essential for injury prevention. Treadmill use can induce 3 to 5 times the shock forces from your feet, all the way upto your spine! This makes choosing the best shoegear even more important. Our office can answer all your shoe questions. We measure for the best fit, can add shock absorbing inserts, and use superior brands for running and many other activities!
